Hi, girls. Well, the biggest issue I see emerging from this tournament is not security or logistics or ticket sales. No, to me the legacy of the 2010 World Cup will be its ... legacy. There are 10 either new or considerably renovated stadiums to that will still exist July 12. Who will use them? How long will the people who have no running water or electricity tolerate living in the shadow of the architectural wonder that is the Nelspruit stadium (which will host four total games)? Will the good people of Polokwane appreciate that their sacrifices were for four games played by global millionaires? In Japan, stadiums built for 2002 sit empty, monolithic white elephants in the urban core. I guess we'll have to come back in four years to gauge the success.
Hugs to Mommy.
