Is it me, or is it cold?

Well, girls, I can tell you that South Africa has given me many, many gifts in my short time here. Today's gift was an appreciation for warmth. Man, it sure got cold all of a sudden! I didn't bring enough warm clothing, of course, foolishly thinking that South African cold couldn't possibly compare to Connecticut. Boy, was I wrong. It got down to freezing overnight, giving me another lesson: It's not a good idea to microwave your socks! The good people of South Africa soldier on throughout all this, smiling through their chattering teeth, reassuring us coddled North Americans and Europeans that it doesn't usually get this cold here. But the days usually warm up and provide a nice sunny respite from the colder nights.
