Uruguay striker Luis Suarez will serve a one-match ban following his red card against Ghana, meaning he will be eligible to play in the World Cup final should his team-mates beat Netherlands.

Suarez was sent off for a deliberate handball during Uruguay's quarter-final match against Ghana, palming a header off the goal-line in the last minute of extra-time.

A red card results in an automatic one-match ban for the offending player, with FIFA having the option to extend it to three matches, should it feel it necessary.

However FIFA has opted not to enforce the additional ban, meaning that Suarez will only be suspended for the semi-final, and will be free to play in either the final, or third-place play off, depending on how Uruguay fair against Netherlands.
