Weiss was recorded swearing at journalists at a press conference on Monday before storming out, briefly returning to physically threaten one reporter. The country's journalists' association countered by issuing a statement saying a coach should be able to fulfil his duties without "threatening the media only because they are doing their job".

Fences clearly had not been mended when the teams practised in Pretoria on Tuesday. Weiss didn't speak to reporters afterwards, sending assistant coach Michal Hipp to address them instead.

Defender Martin Petras insisted the spat had not had any impact on the team. "Things are very calm," he said. "There was a particular situation with those who were in the press room. I haven't seen it. I have just read about it on the internet.

"These things can happen because the tension was a bit high after the match. I don't know what questions they asked him, but there is nothing against us."
