Capello and his right-hand man Franco Baldini will call the unlucky seven to miss the cut, and will give detailed reasons for their exclusion. The Capello camp are at pains to let the players down lightly, but there will be no hiding the real reasons for their exclusion either.

An FA source told Soccernet: "Fabio Capello wants the players to know how much he appreciates the fact that they had made themselves available and how hard they have applied themselves at the training camp. They have been a credit to themselves.

"The manager will not be making any comments or giving any indications as to the names of the seven, as he wishes to inform them first. Of course there is sure to be plenty of speculation, but it is important that the players are told first.

"There will be a personal phone call to all of them before the 23 is announced officially before 11am on Tuesday. They will all be told 'thank you very much, for what you have done to back up the squad.' They will also be told precisely why they have not been selected, and why the manager has opted to pick somebody else."

Stephen Warnock, Michael Dawson, Scott Parker, Darren Bent, Adam Johnson, and Tom Huddlestone are the most likely to be left out, while Shaun Wright-Phillips is only expected to make the cut if Gareth Barry is ruled out.
