Gallas was stretchered off in the first half of Arsenal's 2-2 draw with Barcelona after suffering a recurrence of the problem which had seen him miss eight games for the Gunners prior to Wednesday night .
Wenger admitted his decision to field Gallas was a gamble that backfired and the defender is not expected to play again for Arsenal this season, leaving them short in defence in both the Premier League and Champions League.
But Wenger expects Gallas to be fit to take his place in Raymond Domenech's France squad for the finals in South Africa.
"He pulled his calf muscle and I think it's the end of the season for him," Wenger told Canal+. "I do not include the World Cup. I think he will be ready for the World Cup."
Gallas is a key player for les Bleus and made ten appearances during the qualification campaign, with only Thierry Henry and Bacary Sagna playing more games.
