Filipe's World Cup over after broken ankle?
Filipe's World Cup hopes look to be over after the Deportivo La Coruna player suffered a serious injury during Saturday's Primera Division encounter with Athletic Bilbao.
That means the left-sided wing-back, who was closely linked with a move to Barcelona last summer and has reportedly attracted the interest of Real Madrid this term, is not only unlikely to play again for Depor this season, but could also miss the World Cup in June and July.
Depor coach Miguel Angel Lotina said after the match: "It's the hardest blow that football has given me in recent years. Filipe is like a son to me and he doesn't deserve this."
Filipe, whose leg is set to be in a cast for the next four weeks, sustained the injury following a collision with Athletic goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz - who landed on his leg - immediately after volleying home a cross at the far post.
The 24-year-old made his debut for Brazil in the World Cup qualifier against Venezuela in October.
