Peru left player behind in Colombia after qualifier
Peru striker Hernan Rengifo has criticised the country's football federation after he was left behind in the team hotel following Wednesday's World Cup qualifier in Colombia, local media reported.
"What happened with the team and the journey will remain on the consciences of the directors," the Polish-based player told sports daily El Bocon. "They know their responsibilities."
Peruvian media said that the squad left their team hotel in Medellin earlier than planned but that nobody told Rengifo of the change.
His absence was only noted after the team's charter flight had returned to Lima, the media said.
"The directors know what they did, they're responsible for everyone in the team," said Rengifo.
"Many things have happened in Peruvian football that it's not surprising that unusual situations keep happening."
Peruvian media have said the incident is the latest example of the chaotic state of the country's football.
Peru have not qualified for the World Cup since 1982 and are bottom of the 2010 South American qualifying group with only seven points from 14 games. They have lost their last eight matches.
The Peruvian players union has threatened to boycott the national team if significant changes are not introduced in the next few weeks.
