JOHANNESBURG -- Americans have finally found something they hate more than the vuvuzelas.
Mali referee Koman Coulibaly.
Coulibaly became a household name overnight after infamously disallowing Maurice Edu's goal in the 86th minute, which forced the U.S. to settle for a 2-2 tie with Slovenia on Friday and denied the Americans a rousing comeback victory that would have been the most memorable of this year's World Cup.
As you might imagine, Coulibaly is getting skewered by fans in the United States -- so much so that in the less than 24 hours, more than 140 Facebook pages have been created about Coulibaly, with most of them either wishing him dead or some other form of bodily harm. In fact, a Facebook group was created called, "One Million Strong for Koman Coulibaly's Death by Firing Squad." At the time of this blog's publishing, it had 80 members. There are also a number of Photoshopped pictures of Coulibaly circulating the Internet that are equally unkind.
A sample of some of the other Facebook pages:
• Join If You Think Someone Should Buy Koman Coulibaly A Pair Of Glasses
• Koman Coulibaly and Jim Joyce must be pretty good friends
• Koman Coulibaly: The man that robbed an entire nation
• I hate Koman Coulibaly with a passion
• I Would Spill A Warm Drink On Koman Coulibaly
Yahoo Sports is reporting that Coulibaly will face an expedited performance review from FIFA and may be excluded from the rest of the World Cup. In the meantime, if I were Coulibaly, I'd stay away from windows, and get someone to taste my food.
