West Brom forward Saido Berahino sent to France to get match-fit - Pulis

West Brom striker Saido Berahino has been sent on a four-day training camp in France in a bid to get him match-fit.

Berahino was put on a personal weight-loss programme last month due to concerns about his condition but Pulis is still not satisfied and has sent him across the English Channel to work with a former colleague.

It means the 23-year-old, who has not appeared for Albion since the 1-0 defeat at Bournemouth on Sept. 10, will miss Sunday's trip to the King Power Stadium to face Premier League champions Leicester.

West Brom boss Tony Pulis hopes a change of scenery will aide Berahino while at the same time getting a fresh perspective on the striker's problems.

"Saido's off to a fitness centre, to work with a man that I worked with when I was very young in management,'' said Pulis.

"It's very upmarket. This is someone who's in France, who I worked with 20 years ago. He's from a very good background and Saido understands he's going down there to work. He will be in France for four days. I think he's back on Wednesday.

"He's got a week there to top himself up. He's going to go through everything that we've done so far to enable him to be at a level that hopefully, fingers crossed, when he does come back, he'll be sharp and able to maintain Premier League football.

"He's bought into this and the fella that he's going out to see has got a lot of experience. I know him personally, we're not sending him somewhere I don't know.

"It will be a really good experience for Saido and good for the club because we can get an outside view on his conditioning and what we've done.

"He'll look at everything we've done, assess what we've done and make a judgement on what Saido has to do over the next two weeks before the Burnley game.''

Berahino will not be the only absentee against Leicester as club record signing Nacer Chadli has undergone a minor knee operation.

The midfielder had the procedure to remove some cartilage and it is hoped he will be fit again after the two-week international break which follows this weekend's fixtures.

"It's better we got it done now rather than try to push him through another game,'' said Pulis.

"He's had a little trim of his cartilage and the operation went well so we're hoping he'll be fit for the Burnley game, but he won't be involved on Sunday.

"It was important to get it done. He played the game against Manchester City and he was carrying it right at the end.''

Elsewhere, defender Jonas Olsson has a slight hamstring strain and is a doubt and winger James McClean is suspended after incurring a fifth yellow card of the season against City last weekend.
