Werder Bremen back head coach Alexander Nouri after run of defeats

Struggling Werder Bremen have backed head coach Alexander Nouri to lead them out of trouble.

Bremen are third from bottom and a point above the relegation zone after losing four games in a row, the latest at home to Borussia Monchengladbach last weekend.

Since then there have been rumours that the 2004 champions were lining up ex-Hamburg boss Bruno Labbadia, a former Werder player, as a replacement for Nouri.

But sporting director Frank Baumann told Bild: "We are convinced that we can get through this with Alex.

"There were no discussions and meetings with other coaches."

Baumann was critical of the team following their most recent loss and indicated that the squad would now be playing for their futures.

"I don't want to throw anyone out but we are in a very difficult situation," he said.

"We're going to be looking closely at who we want to work with again in the following season."
