Pa-Modou Kah retires but will stay with Vancouver Whitecaps as coach

Center-back Pa-Modou Kah announced his retirement on Tuesday, though he will stay with the Vancouver Whitecaps as a member of the coaching staff.

Kah had already terminated his first-team contract with Vancouver last August to become a player-coach with the MLS club's USL affiliate.

But the 36-year-old he has now hung up his boots after a 19-year career to concentrate solely on coaching.

"It's been an amazing 20 years and although it saddens me to be hanging up the boots for good, I feel incredibly grateful to be given the chance to start coaching for Whitecaps FC and continue my journey here in Vancouver," he said in a statement.

"Thank you Whitecaps FC, for believing in me and giving me this tremendous opportunity."

The Norway international moved to MLS in 2013 after playing club football in his adopted homeland as well as in Sweden, the Netherlands, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

He played two seasons with the Portland Timbers before moving to Whitecaps, where he scored three goals in 2015.
