Marcelino pulls muscle while celebrating Valencia goal vs. Sociedad

Valencia coach Marcelino says he must learn to control himself and not get carried away after picking up a muscular injury while celebrating Simone Zaza's late winner on Sunday.

Zaza scored five minutes from time to hand Valencia a 3-2 win at Real Sociedad in La Liga.

As Zaza struck the back of the net, the Valencia bench jumped to their feet to celebrate, however, Marcelino was seen on the touchline visibly in pain after tweaking his left hamstring.

Marcelino, nevertheless, remained on the touchline, coached to the end of the game and attended the postmatch news conference.

When asked about his injury, he said : "I pulled a muscle. I'm old and there are certain situations where I have to control myself.

"I'm limping a little bit but I prefer to be the one limping than to have a player injured. I will still be able to coach. I'll just try to avoid similar situations like this in the future."

The former Villarreal coach, who took the helm of Valencia this summer, is well known for going on celebratory runs along the touchline after big wins.

Sunday night was not the first time the 52-year-old has picked up an injury during his managerial career. Several years ago, Marcelino hurt himself when he sat down for a news conference while in charge of Racing Santander.
