Gemmell gets Warriors on way
John Gemmell scored after just 20 seconds and substitute Darren Smith hit a second-half brace as Stenhousemuir defeated 10-man Brechin 4-0 in the Scottish Communities League Cup first round.
Gemmell gave the hosts the lead with an unstoppable 25-yard drive.
Brechin should have equalised after 15 minutes but David McKenna's close range-shot was saved by Callum Reidford.
Gemmell turned provider after 76 minutes, heading into the path of Smith who slotted in from six yards out.
Stewart Kean's placed penalty two minutes from time gave Stenhousemuir a third after Sean Dickson was brought down by Gerard McLauchlan, who was shown a straight red card.
Smith completed the scoring in injury time when he met Dickson's left-wing cross to sweep in from close range.
