Etienne Capoue scored twice to earn Toulouse a narrow victory from an entertaining clash at Ajaccio tonight.
The hosts led through Jonathan Zebina's own goal but Capoue levelled and Franck Tabanou put Toulouse ahead.
Adrian Mutu then made it 2-2 before the break, but Capoue grabbed the winner from the penalty spot 11 minutes from time.
Defeat means Ajaccio still have work to do to avoid the drop - they are five points above the bottom three - while for Toulouse European qualification looks out of reach.
The visitors started well with Adrien Rabiot having a shot blocked by goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, who also saved from Adrien Regattin.
Against the run of play the hosts went in front after 18 minutes when Mutu fired the ball powerfully across the face of goal and Zebina, in trying to clear, could only head it into his own net.
Capoue levelled seven minutes later, firing home from around the penalty spot after Etienne Didot's free-kick.
And six minutes after that Toulouse led, Ochoa completely misjudging a long cross from Capoue and leaving Tabanou with the easy task of volleying the ball into the empty net.
The hosts responded, though, Mutu poking the ball home after the Toulouse defence failed to deal with a Johan Cavalli corner.
Ajaccio came roaring out of the blocks after the break, Ricardo Faty letting fly from the edge of the area and forcing Ali Ahamada into a smart save.
Ahamada had to be alert again to block from Samuel Bouhours before Zebina headed away a dangerous cross from Mehdi Mostefa.
But the home side were undone in the 79th minute when Matthieu Chalme fouled Tabanou inside the area and Capoue stepped up to send Ochoa the wrong way with the penalty.
