Black Stars reach play-offs

Kwadwo Asamoah netted the winner for Ghana.

Ghana booked their place in the final qualification round for the 2014 World Cup after seeing off Zambia 2-1 at the Kumasi Stadium in Ashanti.

Ghana, who had needed only a point, join Algeria, Egypt and Ivory Coast in confirming their place in the play-off stage, which will see ten teams compete for five places in Brazil.

They had taken the lead on 17 minutes through a Abdul Waris header and, with just over an hour on the clock, Juventus midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah put the hosts in complete control with a stunning strike from distance.

Nathan Sinkala fired home from a corner to reduce the deficit in the 72nd minute, but it proved to be no more than a consolation for the 2012 African Nations Cup champions.
