Fotakis earns PAOK a draw

A goal ten minutes from time by Giorgos Fotakis saw PAOK Salonika claim a 2-2 draw at Rubin Kazan in the Europa League.

The Greek side had taken the lead midway through the first half through Stefanos Athanasiadis before two second-half goals by Nelson Haedo Valdez and Vladimir Dyadyun appeared to have put the Russians on course for victory.

However, Fotakis' late intervention means PAOK claimed their second successive draw in Group A with their hosts on four points.

It was Rubin who showed first in attack, Valdez firing in a shot which was comfortably held by Dario Kresic before the keeper was once again called upon to parry Alan Kasaev's left-wing effort.

It was all Rubin with Kresic keeping busy, tipping over Valdez's cross before Kasaev shot wide.

However, it was the visitors who took the lead in the 22nd minute through Athanasiadis.

Georgios Georgiadis played the ball in from the right side of the penalty area and found Athanasiadis who slotted into the centre of the goal from close range.

The goal galvanised the Greek side, Pablo Contreras firing over from Athanasiadis' header.

Both sides were going forward with intent, Athanasiadis threatening again as he forced Sergei Ryzhikov to tip the ball over.

With the first half coming to a close, Rubin searched for an equaliser with Kresic repelling Kasaev's 20-yard shot from the right wing.

Rubin started the second half as they finished the first.

Kasaev and Karadeniz had shots cleared before Cristian Noboa's 20-yard strike evaded the keeper but came back off the bar.

Kurban Berdyev's side were relentless and their pressure paid off seven minutes after the break when Valdez, who had been a constant threat, drew the Russians level with a drilled shot into the bottom left corner.

Rubin then took the lead in the 67th minute. Oleg Kuzmin's shot was punched by Kresic but the ball fell for Dyadyun who slotted home from the six-yard box.

PAOK's Adelino Vieirinha had a shot blocked by Cesar Navas, but the visitors drew level with 10 minutes to go.

Etto's cross from the right of the area found Giorgos Fotakis in the six-yard box and the midfielder headed into the top left corner of the goal.

The result was PAOK's second draw in Group A, while Rubin beat Shamrock Rovers in their opening fixture.
