Guangzhou Evergrande v Bayern Munich: Preview

PA Sport

European champions Bayern Munich have arrived in Morocco looking to add one final crowning glory to an outstanding year.

The German giants, who won the treble last season and then added the European Super Cup in August, now have their eyes set on the FIFA Club World Cup prize.

They enter the latest edition of tournament at the semi-final stage, taking on Asian champions Guangzhou Evergrande of China in Agadir, ahead of a possible final against Brazil's Atletico Mineiro.

Such a final, to be played in Marrakech on Saturday, would be eagerly anticipated, bringing Bayern boss Pep Guardiola up against his former Barcelona playmaker Ronaldinho.

But before then come Guangzhou, who may be a relatively unknown quantity but are managed by a vastly-experienced coach in former Italy, Juventus and Inter Milan boss Marcello Lippi.

Bayern captain Philipp Lahm accepts a final against Atletico cannot be taken for granted.

Lahm told FIFA.com: ``We're definitely the two favourites, though we're probably the most-fancied team.

``We'll see what happens, but there won't be any easy matches.

``Playing at a tournament like this is special for every player, as it's not only an international competition, but also includes teams from all the continents. We're really excited about it.''

Lippi has enjoyed success on the global stage before, having overseen Italy's World Cup triumph in 2006.

He accepts his team's chances in north Africa might be slim, but he would not rule out an upset.

Lippi, whose side beat Al Ahly of Egypt in the quarter-finals, said: ``We all know that Bayern Munich is probably the best team in the world.

``You can play them 100 times and lose 99 times, but there is that one match you can win so you never know.''
