Sochaux v Stade de Reims: Preview

Sochaux coach Herve Renard is ignoring the Ligue 1 table as he prepares his struggling side to host Reims on Wednesday night.

Renard is more concerned with trying to rally his side following a 5-1 thumping at Toulouse on Saturday.

The defeat left the Montbeliard club rooted to the foot of the table, a position they have become accustomed to following a seven-game winless run in the league.

Renard believes it is counter-productive to dwell on such facts and has instead challenged his team to prove they are up for the task of turning their season around.

``We need to turn the page and focus on the home game against Reims on Wednesday because that game is vital,'' he said in a press conference.

``Self-pity achieves nothing in football. The league table does not interest me just now.

``We will see on Wednesday if we have the mental capacity to react to this. I am not angry with my team. I just want us to get the three points against Reims.''

Sochaux have some reason to be confident as they head into the match unbeaten in their past four league games at home - including draws against Monaco and St Etienne.

Reims were beaten 4-0 by St Etienne on the weekend, which followed a 3-0 reverse to Paris St Germain.

Reims coach Hubert Fournier lamented his side's set-piece defending against ASSE and believes they must improve immediately or face a difficult month heading into the winter break.

``We have now let in seven goals in two matches. There is a message in there for us and we must listen to it,'' he said.

``Maybe we forgot that we needed to show something extra to make sure we stay up, because we are not even halfway through the season.

``We must do better, otherwise the next few weeks will be very difficult.''

Fournier had made just one change to his squad with Eliran Atar, who came on as a substitute against St Etienne, replaced by young defender Atila Turan.

Antoine Conte remains sidelined by an ankle injury while Diego and Jeremy Malherbe are still out with their knee problems.
