Hannover 96 v TSG Hoffenheim: Preview

Hoffenheim received a shock yesterday when, for the second time this season, one of their players was involved in a car accident.

Boris Vukcevic is still on the road to recovery after picking up serious head injuries in a crash while on the way to training last October.

Yesterday, in almost an identical incident, Luis Advincula lost control of his car and left the road, colliding with a tree.

He, like Vukcevic, was cut from the wreckage and airlifted to hospital, but that is where the similarities end since the Peruvian just suffered some severe bruising in contrast to Vukcevic, who was in a coma up until December.

``To start with, we're relieved that Luis Advincula has survived the crash pretty much unscathed and hopefully he will be able to return to the training field soon,'' said the club's general manager Andreas Muller.

``We are also pleased that nobody else was involved in the crash.''

The 22-year-old is ruled out of tomorrow's trip to Hannover, though, leaving coach Marco Kurz with one option less as he searches for a second straight victory after last weekend's victory over Freiburg.

And Kurz has chosen to make the trip without former Germany international goalkeeper Tim Wiese as well.

``We have decided that (Heurelho) Gomes and (Koen) Casteels will be our first-choice goalkeepers for the foreseeable future,'' said Kurz.

``It is a decision we have made in agreement with Tim. We want to take the focus away from him so that he is able to get back to his best in peace and quiet.

``Now would be the wrong time to have time on the bench.''

Given Gomes' debut a week ago, Wiese faces a challenge ever getting back between the posts for Hoffenheim, and Hannover face a challenge getting back to winning ways themselves after witnessing Hoffenheim's return to form.

``They had 250 tackles against Freiburg and won 52% of them,'' said coach Mirko Slomka.

Nevertheless, after losing 2-0 to Werder Bremen, Hannover are in need of the points themselves if they are to play in the Europa League again next season.

``We know that,'' Slomka said. ``We are obliged (to win), and we will do everything we can.''
