VfL Wolfsburg v Nurnberg: Preview

Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking faces his former club Nurnberg tomorrow for the first time since leaving during the winter break, but he says there will be no room for nostalgia.

Hecking spent three seasons on the Nurnberg bench, keeping them in the top flight for one of the most prolonged spells in their recent history.

``Of course it's normal for there to be greater anticipation of a game against a club where you worked successfully for three years,'' he said.

``But it's not Dieter Hecking against Nurnberg, but rather Wolfsburg.

``I'm looking forward to meeting old friends and acquaintances, but they are also going to want to win, like I do, so everything reduces during the 90 minutes.''

Hecking passed on the baton to Michael Wiesinger when he moved to the Wolves at the halfway stage of the season, and he has been able to carry on his successful work with the Bavarians close to securing another season in the top flight.

``I'm looking forward to seeing Dieter again,'' said Hecking's former assistant.

``He is a respected colleague whom we wish very much success, only not against Nurnberg.''

Wiesinger's side have gone seven games unbeaten and he has no intention of ending that record tomorrow.

``We want more points,'' he said. ``Our opponents know that it's tough against us.''

It has also been tough for Wolfsburg to win games at home this season, with only two successes at the VW-Arena.

``We have had three good chances to change things at home, but we've not managed to,'' said Hecking.

``Now we have another chance against Nurnberg. We want to control the game from the beginning, but we have to be more clinical in front of goal and take our chances.''

Patrick Helmes and Ivica Olic are set to lead a very attack-minded home team while Wiesinger has no injury worries to contend with.
