FC Augsburg v Hannover 96: Preview

A look at Bundesliga results in 2013 shows that Augsburg are in tremendous form and Hannover are struggling - however the table tells a different story.

Hannover are the side in the hunt for European football next season while the Bavarians - despite their fine form since the turn of the year - are still five points adrift of safety at the wrong end of the table.

That is a gap they are hoping to reduce even further tomorrow when the Reds visit the Augsburg Arena.

``We want to carry forward the momentum we had before the international break and beat Hannover,'' said their coach Markus Weinzierl.

``We have now established a situation through which we are capable of reaching our goals, but we still have to put in a lot of effort and push ourselves to the limit in every game we play.

``We need to invest more in the game than our opponents and be clinical with our chances.''

Augsburg have picked up 15 points in 2013, six more than their total for the first half of the season and more than double the miserly sum of seven Hannover have picked up on their travels this season.

Indeed, Mirko Slomka's side have the worst record in the whole league away from home and, were it not for their home form, relegation would be staring them in the face and not Augsburg.

However, the coach is confident his side can turn the corner after two weeks of hard work during the international break.

``The atmosphere in the camp is very positive,'' he said. ``We have worked with intensity and concentration on this game.''

Slomka has to find an option to replace the suspended Mame Diouf in his side's attack.

``We've tried many different alternatives and we will pick the best one,'' said Slomka on his side's website.

In spite of such poor away form, Hannover have never lost to Augsburg, whose home form is not much better than the Reds' on the road with just 11 points gained.
