Sochaux v Lille: Preview

Lille coach Rudi Garcia has called for his team to restore their self-confidence following the end of their European campaign in midweek.

A 1-0 defeat at home to Valencia meant Lille finished bottom of their Champions League group with just one win and five defeats from six games.

That means they missed out on the consolation of a place in the Europa League, but Garcia could take some positives from Wednesday's performance.

``I wanted us to be solid defensively and hit quickly on the counter-attack,'' Garcia told reporters. ``But we didn't get into attack quickly enough.

``But we still carved out the best chances of the match. I can take heart from the performance of the youngsters again, and the more experienced players also played their part when they came on.

``It wasn't enough but I stand behind my players; we need to get our confidence back because sometimes that is what's preventing us from scoring.''

Looking ahead to tomorrow's game at Sochaux, Garcia added: ``Obviously we were really concentrating on the Champions League match, but we also know that the stakes are different this Saturday against Sochaux.

``Saturday's match is now the most important of the week. We must do everything to win it and climb back up the standings (Lille are currently 10th) and earn some important points.

``It's a good thing that some players were rested against Valencia, we'll need all hands on deck this weekend.''

Sochaux are in even greater need of the points as they currently occupy the final relegation place in Ligue 1.

Defensive trio Mathieu Peybernes, Yassin Mikari and Omar Daf are back in contention, but Cedric Kante, Abdoul Camara and Kalilou Traore remain absent.
