Lyon v Evian Thonon Gaillard: Preview

Coach Remi Garde has urged Lyon not to get ``drunk'' on their standing at the top of Ligue 1 as they prepare to face struggling Evian tomorrow evening.

OL are two points clear of second-placed Paris St Germain, with Marseille a further point back, after 20 games of the season.

With the visitors occupying the final relegation place, albeit level on points with the two teams ahead of them, only one result looks likely tomorrow.

But Garde told the club's website: ``At this stage of the season, (the table) is just a snapshot. We have to be careful not to get drunk on it.

``We must not think we are better than we are. The top spot is not the most important thing for the time being.''

``I know what a team in difficulties, like Evian, is capable of. We must approach the match properly, without thinking about either our league position or that of our opponents.''

Cedric Barbosa, Evian's main goal threat in the absence of his fellow leading scorer Saber Khelifa at the African Nations Cup, has also talked up the possibility of a shock result.

Evian felt hard done by in defeat to Brest last time out and Barbosa told the club website: ``We want to reproduce the same performance and hopefully take the points, or a point.

``In our situation, any points are good. We are in a 'mini-league' with certain teams, but if we can take points against Lyon...

``On Friday, the points are important; to us for survival, and to them to compete for the title.''

Goalkeepers Johann Durand and Bertrand Laquait are both suspended, along with defender Aldo Angoula.

In addition, Brice Dja Djedje is three weeks from fitness while Evian are among the teams worst affected as 40 Ligue 1 players depart for the African Nations Cup.

Pascal Dupraz's side have lost five first-team regulars, with defenders Cedric Mongongu and Jonathan Mensah and midfield pair Mohammed Rabui and Djakaridja Kone joining Khelifa on duty.

Bakary Kone is Lyon's only departure but they have Gueida Fofana suspended and Jimmy Briand injured, although Steed Malbranque is available after a knock against Troyes last time out.
