Bordeaux v Stade de Reims: Preview

Bordeaux midfielder Abdou Traore believes the club can still qualify for European football next season if they win their remaining five Ligue 1 games.

Les Girondins are well off the pace currently - they are ninth on 47 points - but St Etienne's Coupe de la Ligue triumph means fifth place could be enough to secure a place in continental competition.

It still appears a long shot with fifth-placed Lille nine points ahead, but Traore believes a strong finish to the season may be enough.

He told the club's official website, www.girondins.com: ``We need to win all the matches to finish in the best place possible.

``I think it is possible to win all five remaining games. If we do then it is still possible to believe in Europe.

``We still have a chance to finish fifth or sixth.''

The Coupe de France, in which Bordeaux meet Troyes in the semi-finals next week, appears a more likely route to the Europa League and would prove a nice end to what has been a difficult season for Traore.

He added: ``I have not played much this year because of illness early in the season. Physically, I was not well.

``I have not progressed as I wanted but I continue to work hard in training to try to get a run of matches between now and the end of the season.''

Reims' targets are altogether different with the threat of relegation still looming large.

The Champagne-Ardenne club are four points clear of the bottom three, but last weekend's home defeat by Valenciennes has re-opened the possibility of Reims making an immediate return to Ligue 2.

Assistant coach Olivier Guegan admits the visitors are unlikely to take too many risks at the Stade Chaban-Delmas.

``We will need to be tactically disciplined and not open,'' said Guegan.

``We will be patient and hope to take our opportunities when they present themselves.''
