    @JamesTylerESPN
    @JeffreyCarlisle
    @PCarrESPN

  •

James Tyler: Tweet questions to #FCBootroom so Sir Ian and the Kansas City crew can answer them at half-time.

  •

James Tyler: See you back in the Boot Room at 6.30pm ET:
    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/feature/_/id/1190804/the-boot-room?cc=5901

  •

James Tyler: Thanks to Paul Carr and Jeff for their input and insight! Thanks to all of you for your wit and entertainment also.

  •

    [Comment from JamesTylerESPN via Twitter]
RT @dermotmcorrigan: Del Bosque's run of consecutive World Cup or Euros qualifier wins ends on 24.

  •

James Tyler: Should be. Then again, when you never ever play and are suddenly dumped in at the proverbial deep end, is it any wonder that mistakes happen?

  •

    [Comment from AwayFromTheBall]
Last international game for game for Juanfran?

  •

James Tyler: Bookmark it. Park your browsers. As you wish.

  •

  •

James Tyler: Here's your link for the 6.30pm ET Boot Room:

  •

James Tyler: Yes! Ice your keyboards and hydrate your televisions. We'll be closing the Boot Room for a wee bit of clean-up and maintenance.

  •

Jeff Carlisle: Yep. Spain not looking strong defensively at all there at the end. Deserved for France.

  •

    [Comment from Pog]
Cortisone shots for everyone! See you back here in a couple hours.

  •

James Tyler: Perhaps, though it was Juanfran's carelessness that cued the break.

  •

    [Comment from T]
Again, Puyol/Pique never would have let that happen

  •

James Tyler: I'd agree, Jeff. Without Lloris, Giroud's goal would have been mere consolation.

  •

James Tyler: Absolutely. Spain far too slack in the second half. Rightly punished.

  •

    [Comment from Titi]
Fair result in Spain? Yeah, I think so. Do you?

  •

Jeff Carlisle: I still say Lloris is MOTM.

  •

James Tyler: Spain - 10 pts
    France - 7 pts

    Gap remains three.

  •

James Tyler: So what does this do for Group I?

  •

James Tyler: Seriously. It's not a full moon tonight, is it?

  •

    [Comment from Grace]
    Day of upsets.... U.S.A. BEWARE!!!!!

  •

James Tyler: Iker Casillas' scoreless streak: BUSTED. By Olivier Giroud. Amazing.

  •

PCarrESPN: Well, Spain is unbeaten in 48 straight World Cup Qualifiers, last losing to Denmark in 1993. But it won't feel that way...

  •

James Tyler: La Roja stuck in neutral for most of it, France deadly but wasteful in the second half and rewarded with a late late late goal.

  •

James Tyler: FT: Spain 1, France 1

  •

James Tyler: What a curious game.

  •

  •

James Tyler: Careless giveaway by Juanfran allows Les Bleus a final chance. Literally the last kick of le match.

  •

Jeff Carlisle: will not be able to live down that giveaway for awhile.

  •

James Tyler: From a Spain corner, France breaks up the left flank and Giroud nods home a left-flank cross from Ribery!

  •

    Jeff Carlisle: Juanfran

  •

    James Tyler: Zut alors!

  •

  •

    Jeff Carlisle: OMG!

  •

    James Tyler: GOAL FOR FRANCE!!!!

  •

James Tyler: Still too early to truly say given the number of games remaining.

  •

    [Comment from Ms K]
I know everyone else has already moved on from "The Comeback," but what does the 4-4 draw mean for Sweden's chances of qualifying?

  •

James Tyler: Three minutes of added time, of which we've about 30 seconds left.

  •

James Tyler: Set piece hoofed into the box but Sergio Ramos clears.

  •

James Tyler: Yellow card for Juanfran. Kicked the ball away so France couldn't take a quick free kick.

  •

James Tyler: He's been wonderful. An arguable MOTM contender. Without him, it might be 3-0.

  •

    [Comment from Tombomb]
I know it has probably already been asked but how has Lloris looked today against Spain?

  •

James Tyler: He's always upset, Sean. Today will be no different. He has two moods: disgruntled and arrogant. No in-between.

  •

    [Comment from Sean]
How upset is Mourinho going to be? Arbeloa, Marcelo, Coentrao, and now Benzema all out injured

  •

James Tyler: Casillas forced to look sharp twice in a matter of seconds. Good run then by Matuidi into the box but the cut-back pass doesn't find a French player to tap it home. La Roja looking dishevelled in the final moments.

  •

    James Tyler: Chance for France!

  •

James Tyler: Burgess Meredith just handed me a bottle of Gatorade and a pep talk. Best Boot Room corner man in the business.

  •

James Tyler: No. We'll see a 6-5 final score tonight, during which my keyboard bursts into flames.

  •

    [Comment from Pog]
So is global soccer going to work the insanity out of its system before the US-Guatemala game tonight? Or are all these events just portents of more madness to come?

  •

James Tyler: Actually, he'll likely just harp on the dubiously disallowed goal instead of any negatives. Good approach, I'll say.

  •

James Tyler: I suppose. Deschamps will spin it positively. Use the excuse that he was trying players out, lots of positives, etc.

  •

    [Comment from Calderone]
Is this an acceptable performance from France today? Seems as though many will be pleased with only 1-0 vs Spain with a few good chances and a disallowed goal

  •

James Tyler: 88th minute... France with an attack up the right. Good cross intended for Giroud but he can't muscle through Busquets to make the header.

  •

James Tyler: Yep, Benzema looks hurt. Poor lad.

  •

James Tyler: Aww, Will. Thank you. Check's in the mail.

  •

    [Comment from Will]
This is one of the few things ESPN does right. Having The Boot Room up and running with great commentary.

  •

James Tyler: SUB FOR FRANCE: Benzema limps off, replaced by Olivier Giroud.

  •

James Tyler: 86th minute at the Vicente Calderon. Torres scoops the ball off Fabregas' foot inside the box but Cesc is blocking Sakho unfairly from making a tackle.

  •

James Tyler: No, sorry. We all know you'll score a second-half hat trick.

  •

    [Comment from Cristiano Ronaldo]
You aren't going to stay open until my game finishes?!

  •

James Tyler: Casillas leaps to collect a cross aimed at Benzema. Now, the Real Madrid striker's hobbling. Ouch. Knee problem?

  •

    [Comment from AwayFromTheBall]
New definition for German words: Fahrvergnügen - Falling asleep at the wheel.

  •

    [Comment from Charlie]
even worse Low is Norv Turner

  •

    [Comment from GG]
unbelievable performance, but we knew Germany had issues after Italy beat them in the Euros

  •

James Tyler: TWEET YOUR QUESTIONS: Have something you'd like to ask Sir Ian Darke, Taylor Twellman and Alexi Lalas? About soccer, mind you. Simply tweet your Qs using the #FCBootroom hashtag on Twitter. They'll answer the pick of your queries during half-time of the USA v. Guatemala game.

  •

James Tyler: Tons of folks in the mix for that: Me, Rog Bennett, Jeff Carlisle, Paul "Statsie" Carr and Insider's Doug McIntyre. Trying to get Jimmy Page to play lead guitar but he's busy.

  •

James Tyler: Until the end of the Spain-France game. We need to tidy it up before reopening at 6.30pm ET for USA v. Guatemala.

  •

    [Comment from Brandon]
How long is the boot room staying open?

  •

James Tyler: Does that mean Jogi Low is Philip Rivers? I can't even.

  •

    [Comment from Grace]
Sweden the Denver Broncos os futbol.

  •

James Tyler: Meanwhile, in Madrid.... Xavi fails to connect with Torres inside the box. Goal kick, Les Bleus.

  •

James Tyler: FT: Germany 4, Sweden 4.

  •

James Tyler: Well, one assumes so in the end, but not just yet. And this one will surely have people baffled. Jogi Low isn't invincible. Neither is Germany.

  •

    [Comment from Jesse N.]
    aren't Germany through anyway?

  •

    [Comment from Kiko]
If Sweden can do it against Germany, Canada certainly can against Honduras

  •

James Tyler: When I think inspirational comebacks, I rarely think Sweden. But there you go. The paradigm has shifted.

  •

PCarrESPN: Germany had never drawn or lost a match when scoring four goals.

  •

    [Comment from JamesTylerESPN via Twitter]
@honigstein Worse than losing 5-1 to England, for sure.

  •

    [Comment from JamesTylerESPN via Twitter]
    #LowOut

  •

    [Comment from JamesTylerESPN via Twitter]
    Sweden! #SWEDEN

  •

James Tyler: A snap-shot effort by Rasmus Elm on the volley. Whoa.

  •

    James Tyler: #FireJogiLow

  •

James Tyler: Goal! Germany 4, Sweden 4 - UNBELIEVABLE

  •

James Tyler: Goal! Cuba 1, Panama 0 - Alberto Gomez, 38'

  •

James Tyler: In the third minute of injury time!

  •

    James Tyler: MON DIEU!

  •

James Tyler: Had all the pre-game billing of a biggie but playing out like a wet Wednesday in Stoke at the moment.

  •

PCarrESPN: SWEDEN TIES IT UP 4-4 vs GERMANY!

  •

James Tyler: 12 minutes left in Madrid. Still Spain 1, France 0.

  •

James Tyler: Whoa! Fernando Torres with a forceful run, the crowd at the Vicente Calderon stadium urging him on. He slips and loses the ball.

  •

James Tyler: Yeah but it's one game, etc. And he showed his class at Euro 2012. Or started to.

  •

    [Comment from Alex]
How is no one saying Ronaldo, they are currently losing to N. Ireland

  •

James Tyler: I have no idea what you're talking about.

  •

    [Comment from KevNJ]
Just thinking about what Allen-Sahin/Shelvey/Lucas-Gerrard/Sterling-Torres-Suarez would've looked like...

  •

James Tyler: Ouch. Just, ouch. I feel bad for the northern neighbours.

  •

Jeff Carlisle: It looks like it's all over for Canada, assuming Panama doesn't get slaughtered against Cuba. 0-0 in the '37.

  •

    PCarrESPN: RIP Canada.

  •

    [Comment from Rahul Oak]
Carrol! Actually no wait. He's crap for both.

  •

    James Tyler: He scored today.

  •

    [Comment from Peter]
    RVP

  •

James Tyler: Goal! Honduras 4, Canada 0 - Mario Martinez, 33'

  •

    James Tyler: Zing.

  •

    [Comment from Brian]
    Everyone on England

  •

James Tyler: Unfair! Scored a lovely goal vs. Spain this summer.

  •

    [Comment from S]
    Di Natale

  •

James Tyler: Nice of Del Bosque to give El Nino a run in front of his hometown crowd.

  •

James Tyler: SUB FOR SPAIN: Andres Iniesta off, Fernando Torres on.

    Altidore.

  •

James Tyler: Wow. A lot to pick from. Give me a few minutes. Let's hear your ideas.

  •

    [Comment from T]
JT, best club player who is worthless for country?

  •

PCarrESPN: Honduras up 3-0 on Canada.

  •

James Tyler: Too busy making workout tapes on YouTube.

  •

    [Comment from d]
Canada needs a hero. Where is Owen Hargreaves when you need him?

  •

James Tyler: Chance for France! Sissoko fires wide after a lovely flowing move for Les Bleus. Good angled run by Benzema to make space in the middle.

  •

James Tyler: They were rubbish at the Olympics, too. An annus horribilis indeed.

  •

    [Comment from Will]
Is it me or do Uruguay look nothing like the team in 2010 in the WC?

  •

James Tyler: Bolivia's second goalscorer vs Uruguay: Gualberto Mojica, 26'

  •

James Tyler: Goal! Honduras 3, Canada 0. Carlo Costly, 29'

  •

    James Tyler: To Be Determined...

  •

    [Comment from Danny]
JT, wil the Boot Room be on tomorrow for England v Poland?

  •

PCarrESPN: Sweden just missed an open net for the potential tying goal. Wow!

  •

James Tyler: Well that's exactly it. He's earned the right to do as he pleases.

  •

    [Comment from Alan]
Who are we to question Del Bosque's methods? Two Euros and a World Cup say he knows how to play his team.

  •

James Tyler: FT: Macedonia 1, Serbia 0. UPSET ALERT. Also a big result for Belgium/Scotland.

  •

James Tyler: Benzema tries to get free down the left but miscontrols the ball. Goal kick, Spain.

  •

James Tyler: 20 minutes left in Spain. France looking far more threatening in the second half yet still not that threatening, really.

  •

James Tyler: Goal! Bolivia 2, Uruguay 0 --

  •

James Tyler: Chance for Spain! Xavi's corner is met powerfully by Sergio Ramos in the box but he puts his chance wide.

  •

    James Tyler: Goal! - Austria 4, Kazakhstan 0 - Martin Harnik, 93'

  •

James Tyler: Does feel that way. Weirder yet, Del Bosque has plenty of defenders on his bench (Raul Albiol, anyone?) but prefers to use his best 11 players and slot them where he needs them to play.

  •

    [Comment from Bryce]
Looks to me like Spain are really missing Pique/Puyol right now. Playing Busquets in midfield just gives them way more protection.

  •

James Tyler: SUB FOR FRANCE: Moussa Sissoko on, Jeremy Menez off.

  •

James Tyler: Chance for France! Benzema shoots wide from a narrow angle having worked his way into the box. Good defending by Sergio Ramos to force his Real Madrid teammate onto his weaker left foot.

  •

James Tyler: Chance for Fabregas but Lloris springs off his line to collect before Cesc can shoot.

  •

James Tyler: Johan Elmander with Sweden's third goal. Scenes in Germany. 4-3 to the home side with 10 minutes left having been up 4-0 after 56 mins.

  •

    James Tyler: about 10-ish minutes

  •

    [Comment from Calderone]
Time left in swe v ger?

  •

James Tyler: Chance for France! Close range header is rebuffed by San Iker! Again comes Ribery down the left but he's double-teamed into giving up the ball.

  •

James Tyler: Former LFC academy man, Pog. YOU'RE WELCOME.

  •

    [Comment from Pog]
Assist on that last Sweden goal from Fulham's Alex "Cuckoo for Kaca Puffs" Kacaniclic, who was subbed on at the half.

  •

James Tyler: Jordi Alba with another bombastic run down the left. His cross lands safely in Lloris' gloves.

  •

James Tyler: Three unanswered goals in the past 15 minutes for Sweden.

  •

James Tyler: Goal! Germany 4, Sweden 3 -- CAN THIS BE HAPPENING

  •

James Tyler: A superb chip by McGinn to score for Northern Ireland. Worth finding a replay.

  •

James Tyler: Goal by Niall McGinn for the Norn Irons!

  •

    James Tyler: (Falls off chair)

  •

    [Comment from Grace]
    N. IRELAND 1 - PORTUGAL 0

  •

James Tyler: Chance for Spain! Pedro with a lazy break upfield. He finds Xavi wide and unmarked but he takes too much time to shoot and is closed down.

  •

    James Tyler: 2010 Spain.

  •

    [Comment from Roshan]
James what do you thinki ? which team was better? France 2006 WC Team or 2010 Spain World Cup Team?

  •

James Tyler: Oh dear. Sad for the Canadians.

  •

PCarrESPN: GOAL Honduras. Another from Jerry Bengston puts Honduras up 2-0 on Canada.

  •

James Tyler: Benzema is through again -- and onside -- but he lets the ball elude him. Casillas scurries out to smother.

  •

James Tyler: He's starting to get more room. France in general are. Valbuena has opened things up a bit in midfield.

  •

    [Comment from Startled]
Has France even been able to get Ribery into the open, or is Spain just shutting everything down at midfield and just holding the ball like usual?

  •

James Tyler: France breaks up the other end via Ribery but Benzema is offside on the clever through-ball.

  •

James Tyler: Chance for Spain! Lovely run by Alba again down the left. He gets to the touchline and cuts it back for Fabregas at the near post but a superb interception denies him.

  •

James Tyler: Macedonia still leading Serbia 1-0. Six minutes remaining. Would be a shock.

  •

James Tyler: The two are impossible to compare. I'll say Fellaini.

  •

    [Comment from yaya]
hey james, which possesses greater powers: kompany's forehead? or fellaini's fro?

  •

    [Comment from Lee]
Quite the snoozer is the game in Spain. Have it on while working...and I'm still falling asleep...

  •

James Tyler: So close for Ribery! Smacks one into the side netting from the top of the box! Lovely run by Evra is stopped by Ramos but the ball falls kindly for Ribery to shoot.

  •

James Tyler: Superb goal, too. Not a header but a blasted shot from 20+ yards that rocketed into the upper 90.

  •

    James Tyler: Goal! - Belgium 2, Scotland 0 - Vinny Kompany, 71'

  •

James Tyler: Presumably to add some life to the French midfield.

  •

James Tyler: Sub for France: Maxime Gonalons off, Mathieu Valbuena on.

  •

James Tyler: Sorry, correction: on replay it was Chelsea's lesser-known Belgian, Kevin De Bruyne, who crossed.

  •

    [Comment from Calderone]
Hazard layer the ball off to the crosser who put it on a platter

  •

James Tyler: 55th minute in Spain. La Roja still up 1-0. All very snoozy.

  •

James Tyler: Arguably more at stake today, Brian. More vested interest and thus, more effort.

  •

    [Comment from Brian]
Hard to believe this is the same Scotland that conceded 5 goals to the United States

  •

James Tyler: Yes - Hazard ball in, Benteke header. Simple.

  •

    [Comment from Who am I?]
    Did Eden set it up?

  •

James Tyler: Love such shadowy ideas, Alan.

  •

    [Comment from Alan]
Conspiracy Theory: Poland knew about the postponement rules, had a player with questionable fitness, and abused their retractable roof to buy the player more time.

  •

James Tyler: Ricketts hits the post for Canada!

  •

James Tyler: Goal! Belgium 1, Scotland 0 - Christian Benteke finally breaks the Scotch resolve!

  •

James Tyler: DISCLAIMER: The Boot Room does not condone the forceful annexing of peaceful island nations.

  •

    [Comment from Startled]
My plan is to annex some deserted carribean island. I think that will go over easier than fighting 32k people

  •

James Tyler: Goal! Iceland 0, Switzerland 2 - Mario Gavranovic, 79'

  •

James Tyler: Goal! Germany 4, Sweden 2 -- Die Mannschaft positively collapsing.

  •

James Tyler: Jordi Alba is having a strong game for Spain. Easily their most incisive player and he's their left-back!

  •

James Tyler: Ha! It's a decent size: 32,000 population. Marginally less populous than the District of Columbia. Nestled in Northeast Italy.

  •

PCarrESPN: GOAL Honduras. Jerry Bengston in the 7th minute. Los Catrachos up 1-0 on Canada.

  •

    [Comment from AwayFromTheBall]
How is San Marino a country? I am going there tomorrow with my brother and invading it. I will be known as President-4-life AwayFromTheBall.

  •

James Tyler: Dries Mertens skids a free kick narrowly wide for Belgium. Still 0-0, 25 mins to play there.

  •

James Tyler: Goal for Bolivia - Carlos Saucedo, 6'

  •

PCarrESPN: As CONMEBOL begins today, current SPI odds to finish in top 4 and get automatic bid: Argentina 96.1%, Colombia 90.6, Ecuador 82.6, Chile 58.9, Uruguay 32.5, Venezuela 32.4, Peru 6.7, Bolivia 0.1, Paraguay 0.04.

  •

James Tyler: The Spain game is making me a tad sleepy. Apologies if I go heavy on the updates from the rest of the world.

  •

Jeff Carlisle: That didn't take long.

  •

James Tyler: Goal! Honduras 1, Canada 0 - Jerry Bengtson 7'

  •

James Tyler: Yes, he did look unhappy with coming off. Tweaked something. Definitely not a planned Del Bosque swap.

  •

    [Comment from yaya]
is arbeloa actually hurt? 'cause with recent injuries to marcelo and fabio coentrao this could be bad for real madrid...

  •

James Tyler: Goal! Bolivia 1, Uruguay 0

  •

James Tyler: Goal! - Germany 4, Sweden 1 - Zlatan Ibrahimovic saving some face for the visitors.

  •

James Tyler: Chance for Scotland! Good low cross from the left is almost turned in by Jamie Mackie from close range! Good defending to pull the ball off his toe as he prepped to shoot.

  •

Jeff Carlisle: No doubts for me, even with that last friendly in August. Mexico is still on top.

  •

James Tyler: Goal! - San Marino 0, Moldova 2 - Alexandru Epureanu 78'

  •

James Tyler: Yes. I think Jeff would agree...?

  •

    [Comment from Taco]
James- Do you rate Mexico best in the CONCACAF?

  •

James Tyler: Sub for Spain: Alvaro Arbeloa has a knock. He'll soon be replaced by Juanfran.

  •

James Tyler: Bolivia v. Uruguay just kicked off.

  •

    James Tyler: Goal! - Austria 3, Kazakhstan 0 - David Alaba, 71'

  •

James Tyler: Heck, I'd fly out to see that, Charlie.

  •

    [Comment from Charlie]
Plus if they played in Vancouver the 38,000 of us who show up to every Sounders game might get to witness the USA play a WCQ.

  •

PCarrESPN: Canada hasn't reached the Final Round of qualifying since the 1998 World Cup cycle.

  •

James Tyler: One would think, Mark.

  •

    [Comment from MARK]
If US can play in that mud trap of a crickett field at anitgua then england should be able to play a game in that pond.

  •

James Tyler: Second half underway in Spain, by the way. As breezy and insignificant as the first half thus far.

  •

James Tyler: Definitely Canada. I want no part of those tricky, tenacious Central American teams.

PCarrESPN: Has to be Canada. Toronto/Montreal/Vancouver is highly preferable to Tegucigalpa or San Pedro Sula.

  •

    [Comment from Charlie]
Who would you rather face in the Hexagonal, Honduras or Canada? I'd have to think Canada.

  •

  •

James Tyler: Witsel just fouled someone.

  •

    [Comment from Chris]
Has hazard or witzel done anything this game for belgium

  •

James Tyler: No. I'd bet USA to win by 1.

  •

    [Comment from Doug GFOP]
James, if you were a betting man....would you be betting a draw in tonights usa guatemala match...?

  •

James Tyler: Yes indeed, Brian. But not a massive one. A tremor as opposed to a full quake.

  •

PCarrESPN: SPI odds to advance from CONCACAF Group C: Panama 88.2%, Canada 62.8%, Honduras 49.0%.

  •

    [Comment from Brian]
Hungary is up 3-1 on Turkey, that's a bit of an upset, right?

  •

James Tyler: Not quite a group of death. More like a group of mild discomfort.

  •

James Tyler: Huge result in the offing if Macedonia beats Serbia. Currently leading 1-0 with 20 to play. Would make the Belgium-Scotland result even more intriguing as to who escapes this group.

  •

PCarrESPN: CONCACAF Group C underway. Simplest scenarios to advance: Panama needs win/draw at Cuba or Canada loss/draw. Canada needs win/draw at Honduras. Honduras must beat Canada.

  •

James Tyler: Goal! Germany 4, Sweden 0 - Mesut Ozil

  •

James Tyler: So there you have it. Official word.

  •

James Tyler: The England v. Poland game will be played at 11am ET tomorrow.

  •

PCarrESPN: Per FIFA Laws of the Game: if the match can't go tomorrow, it could be postponed to the next day if both FAs agree. If that doesn't work, then they figure out something else.

  •

James Tyler: Goal! San Marino 0, Moldova 1 - Serghei Dadu, 72'

  •

James Tyler: Right, so my peripheral vision will track the final 40 minutes of Belgium 0, Scotland 0. No offense to Germany or Italy, both of whom are looking comfy in their respective games.

  •

James Tyler: Now now, Walt. Poland's a lovely country. Had some fun there in 2000/01. I'll say no more.

  •

    [Comment from Walt White]
The real tragedy is that the Englishman have to spend an extra day in Poland.....

  •

James Tyler: Goal! Italy 3, Denmark 1 - Mario Balotelli 54'

  •

James Tyler: Unconfirmed: the game will be tomorrow.

  •

James Tyler: Back to the bus for the England players. All that warming up for nothing.

  •

James Tyler: Aha. Good one, Paul. So tomorrow, then.

  •

James Tyler: No, we really can't. Word has it that the winds were too strong to activate the roof closing mechanism, but it's all conjecture and unconfirmed at this point.

  •

PCarrESPN: FIFA rules say the game has to be played within 24 hours.

  •

    [Comment from Julien]
Can someone explain to me why Poland built a brand new stadium with a retractable roof if they have no intention of using it??

  •

James Tyler: Goal! Austria 2, Kazakhstan 0 - Marc Janko, 63'

  •

James Tyler: Now, to decide when the game is played. Given the delicacy of club schedules and the narrow international windows, it's not like they can just come back tomorrow. Or maybe they can. Plenty of phone calls to be made, I expect.

  •

James Tyler: It's been called, confirmed, made official. etc.

  •

James Tyler: THERE WILL BE NO POLAND v. ENGLAND TONIGHT.

  •

James Tyler: Goal! Slovakia 0, Greece 1 - Dimitrios Salpingidis, 63'

  •

James Tyler: Ruslan Rotan heads wide from close range. Ukraine within seconds of losing 1-0 at home to Montenegro.

  •

James Tyler: Crowd in Warsaw getting anxious as they wait for final word.

  •

  •

James Tyler: Benteke hits the crossbar for Belgium. So close, Christian.

  •

James Tyler: Amazing, and no, not at all.

  •

    [Comment from Keller]
How do Germany look? And does Ibra look dangerous at all?

  •

    [Comment from JamesTylerESPN via Twitter]
Only one dodgy covering allowed in Warsaw, apparently, and it's currently topping Wayne Rooney's scalp.

  •

James Tyler: Sharp but unable to beat McGregor in goal. Benteke missed an empty netter. 0-0 at half-time there.

  •

    [Comment from Chris]
    How is belgium looking

  •

James Tyler: That's a potential shocker, folks.

  •

James Tyler: Goal! Macedonia 1, Serbia 0 - Agim Ibraimi 57'

  •

James Tyler: Too late, Danny. Far too late for that.

  •

    [Comment from Danny]
Wow close the roof after it rains it will be like a swamp in there!!!

  •

James Tyler: It's hand-powered? Not sure.

  •

    [Comment from austin]
Why wasn't the roof closed 50 minutes ago?

  •

James Tyler: The pitch at present looks like a swimming pool. Grass looks like moss. Ref tried to kick a ball around and succeeded in toe-poking it a foot or two. Hardly the kind of slick passing demanded.

  •

James Tyler: Here's where we stand: rain slowed down/stopped, referee has inspected the pitch and now a decision is imminent. Roof is being closed soon and there are suggestions that the pitch could drain within 30 minutes once it is shut.

  •

    [Comment from Bryan]
Is the England - Poland game going to be played?

  •

James Tyler: A rather insipid game, truth be told. Spain afforded its usual room and time on the ball, creating plenty. France kept in it by Lloris though robbed of a decent goal shout on Menez' header. Alas. C'est la vie.

  •

James Tyler: HT: Spain 1, France 0. In Lloris Didier Trusts.

  •

Jeff Carlisle: Lloris, MOTM, so far. Or maybe the AR.

  •

James Tyler: Right, then. Looks like Poland-England is a no-go. Waiting on final word, there. Not confirmed yet.

  •

PCarrESPN: Portugal-Northern Ireland is underway. Cristiano Ronaldo officially gets his 100th cap, joining Figo (127) & Fernando Couto (110) in Portugal's century club.

  •

James Tyler: You can only win the games you play.

  •

    [Comment from Jim from Reno]
Faroe Islands are no Antigua & Barbuda, but good for Ireland, I suppose.

  •

James Tyler: Couple of sharp saves by Lloris to deny Pedro a goal.

  •

    James Tyler: Goal! Faroe Islands 1, Ireland 4 - Darren O'Dea, 87'

  •

James Tyler: Welp. Pitch inspection in Warsaw went well. Ref can barely kick the ball six inches through some puddles.

  •

James Tyler: Yeah, I was teasing. Though I hear it was Daniel Levy who insisted on making the transfer this season after AVB had reportedly guaranteed Friedel one more season.

  •

    [Comment from RomanianDan]
Hate on AVB not Lloris guys

  •

James Tyler: Goal! Romania 1, Netherlands 4 - van Persie, 87'

  •

James Tyler: Why? Torres would have missed it too.

  •

    [Comment from Ryan]
Torres presently on the bench crying after that pk miss...

  •

James Tyler: We all do, Jim.

  •

    [Comment from Jim from Reno]
I still hate Lloris for ending poor Brad Friedel's streak.

  •

James Tyler: Are you watching, Brad Friedel? (I kid, I kid.)

  •

James Tyler: Head high, weakly hit and Lloris guessed correctly!

  •

James Tyler: Penalty saved! Fabregas denied by Lloris!

  •

Jeff Carlisle: That's not even close by Koscielny. And in a rare moment for a defender, he didn't protest.

  •

James Tyler: Koscielny slides across Pedro's run, nowhere near the ball.

  •

James Tyler: So, from a disallowed goal to a conceded penalty in the span of two minutes. This is French football.

  •

James Tyler: Penalty to Spain! Laurent Koscielny with a brainless challenge. He's booked.

  •

James Tyler: Goal! Cyprus 1, Norway 3 - Joshua King, 83'

  •

James Tyler: I thought so too. Not sure whether the call was against Benzema on the initial header.

  •

Jeff Carlisle: Got it. Thanks. Will do.

  •

    [Comment from Brian]
    Onside. Bad call

  •

James Tyler: Not enough quality players?

  •

Ft. Laud. Strikers Fan: I'll let you get back to work... and I should, too. If you ever touch base with R.O., tell him you had a random internet chat with Cameron Duncan

  •

    [Comment from depressed red]
is there any reason scotland can't field a quality team?

  •

James Tyler: Goal! - Cyprus 1, Norway 2 - Tarik El Younoussi, 81' (PK)

  •

James Tyler: Awful, torrential rain. Pitch will be inspected at 3.45pm ET to determine a possible start time.

  •

    [Comment from Brandon]
Hey just got here. Why was the Poland game delayed?

  •

James Tyler: Free kick swung to the back post, Benzema nodded it back across goal after three Spanish defenders missed it and Menez headed home from very close range. However, he was behind the last man.

  •

Jeff Carlisle: My kids are still too young for that, but it's not far off.

  •

James Tyler: GOAL FOR FRANCE! But it's flagged for offside!

  •

James Tyler: Xabi Alonso fouls Benzema on the right side of the field. Free kick for France. Decent spot: wide right but near the edge of the box.

  •

Ft. Laud. Strikers Fan: We're thinking about getting back this winter or next spring. The kids want to go to Orlando to see the Harry Potter park.

  •

James Tyler: It was roughly 66, shane. But it's still scoreless!

  •

    [Comment from shane]
how many saves did McGregor have for Scotland in the 1st half? in the first 10 minutes I lost count around 47...

  •

James Tyler: Chance for Spain: Pedro does well to work his way inside the box. Lays it off for Iniesta 20 yards out and the Barca man whacks it a mile wide. Not good.

  •

James Tyler: All a bit sleepy at the moment. No recent goals across the rest of UEFA, either.

  •

Jeff Carlisle: Hah! I live in Northern California. Funny how things work. I was back in FLA last weekend on my way back from Antigua.

  •

James Tyler: Ref checks for signs of life and the Lille right-back is soon on his feet. Debuchy was upended as the ball was played up the line to him. He's fine.

  •

James Tyler: Debuchy's down after a strong challenge by Jordi Alba.

  •

Ft. Laud. Strikers Fan: Same here. It's been a few years since I've been back. My parents still live there, but I'm in S. Cal. now.

  •

    [Comment from Brian]
Every Real Madrid player and fan to Benzema: "Oh NOW you can shoot on goal."

  •

James Tyler: True, though he's a more natural CF/CAM than ST. Still, if he's got a strong back, we can use him.

  •

    [Comment from Matt]
    JT: Lets not forget Pacheco.

  •

James Tyler: Corner for France follows but Menez' effort is cleared with ease.

  •

Jeff Carlisle: Childhood buddy who lived three streets over from me. Good guy, tho haven't talked to him in years.

  •

James Tyler: Chance for France! Benzema gets free between Busquets and Arbeloa, firing low across goal. Good parry by Iker Casillas to stop it nestling in the bottom corner.

  •

    [Comment from JohnBrewinESPN via Twitter]
What's all this about Brendan messing up a formation? Does he use three envelopes to bake?

  •

Ft. Laud. Strikers Fan: Yes! We played football & soccer together at PC. He was 1 year older than me.

  •

James Tyler: HT: Belgium 0, Scotland 0. The home side rampant but unable to get one past Allan McGregor.

  •

James Tyler: Foul called against Iniesta in the French half.

  •

Jeff Carlisle: Nova High class of '82. Did you know R.O. Powell?

  •

James Tyler: No, Dave. Because he's got Samed Yesil and Adam Morgan to call upon! (sobs uncontrollably)

  •

Ft. Laud. Strikers Fan: Where'd you go to school, & when? I graduated from Pine Crest in '84.

  •

Jeff Carlisle: Mine too, though I enjoyed watching Teofilo Cubillas as well.

  •

    [Comment from Dave]
So JT I assume Brend Rodgers will be holding his breath for next 2 hrs while Uruguay play Bolivia with the hope he wont have to play Joe Cole at striker verus Reading

  •

James Tyler: Goal! Italy 2, Denmark 1 -- William Kvist, 46'

  •

[Comment from Ft. Laud. Strikers Fan]
For Jeff: Ray Hudson was my favorite player growing up in Ft. Lauderdale. Loved going to Lockhart Stadium for the games.

  •

James Tyler: 1-1 draw if the game happens tonight. Pitch inspection scheduled for 3.45pm ET.

  •

    Jeff Carlisle: Mine too!

  •

    [Comment from Pop]
Predictions for Poland v England? Will they even PLAY?

  •

James Tyler: Another surging move down the left side for Spain. Pedro releases Fabregas but Debuchy blocks the cross out for another corner.

  •

James Tyler: It'd certainly be more entertaining than this one, Bryce.

  •

    [Comment from Bryce]
Have Spain ever done an international exhibition where they field an A and B team? I figure that game would be more entertaining than most friendlies.

  •

James Tyler: Check your thesaurus and the rhyme will reveal itself.

  •

    [Comment from Matt]
    Not your best Hudson-ism JT

  •

    [Comment from RobertBlaszczak via Twitter]
It only takes 12mins to close the roof at the National Stadium and, apparently, it could be done when it rains. (by @KoltonRoman)

  •

James Tyler: Goal! Faroe Islands 1, Ireland 3 - Despair as Pol Johannus Justinussen scores and own goal. 17 mins left in that one.

  •

James Tyler: 28 minutes gone and Spain looking as cosy as an insect in a blanket.

  •

    [Comment from JohnBrewinESPN via Twitter]
@BroadcastMoose yes, on ITV. We saw that too.

  •

James Tyler: Keep sending questions via Twitter for Sir Ian Darke, Alexi Lalas esq and Taylor Twellman, M.D. (Note, I have no idea if any of those titles are accurate.) Use the #FCBootroom hashtag and the best queries will be answered on air during half-time of the USA v. Guatemala game tonight. 6.30pm ET, ESPN2 and WatchESPN.

  •

James Tyler: Definitely the latter. Goal was a simple tap-in. Deschamps will be furious at the set piece marking. Not only was Ramos' header wide open, but Sakho gave him too much room to slot home at the second time of asking.

  •

    [Comment from Bryce]
I don't know which was better: the goal or the celebration.

  •

James Tyler: Again, Spain attacks. All traffic directed down the left flank. Pedro gets it wide left and cuts infield to shoot... his effort drags wide of Lloris' near post.

  •

James Tyler: It was, Ramos has a strong vertical leap. Thinking a failed backflip goal celebration would be the most embarrassing thing ever.

  •

    [Comment from BK]
    Great backflip too

  •

James Tyler: He was majestic for Everton, Jake.

  •

PCarrESPN: GOAL Germany, to go up 3-0 on Sweden. Per Mertesacker with his 2nd career goal, his first in his last 76 appearances.

  •

    [Comment from Jake]
I'm not sure any contemporary Arsenal players can be said to have had a "glorious club career." At least not until after they switch clubs.

  •

James Tyler: He was busy grieving his near miss and simply sidefoots in the low return cross. Easy.

  •

  •

James Tyler: Corner blasted in, Ramos puts a wide-open header off the post and then calmly slots the rebound that was pinged back to him.

  •

    James Tyler: GOAL FOR SPAIN!

  •

James Tyler: Yeah, another unfair snub. But he's had a glorious club career. Well, decent enough.

  •

    [Comment from Alex]
You mean the MAGISTERIAL Ray Hudson.

  •

    [Comment from Mike Dunlap]
arteta anyone? has he ever even gotten a call up? sorry your not even the 6th best midfielder in your country but heres the epl player of the year trophy

  •

James Tyler: Another good run by Jordi Alba down the left. Wins another corner.

  •

James Tyler: Goal! Faroe Islands 1, Ireland 2! Arnbiorn Hansen pulls one back for the Danish principality!

  •

Jeff Carlisle: I was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. to be exact, where I once watched one Gerd Muller play. And Ray Hudson too.

  •

James Tyler: Iker Munain? Another good pick.

  •

    [Comment from d]
Who is that winger that plays for Bilbao...little blond fellah?

  •

James Tyler: Rog is the same. A Scouser in New York.

  •

James Tyler: Born and raised in Liverpool, England. Moved to USA about a decade ago.

  •

James Tyler: Chance for Spain! Iniesta whiffs on a close-range shot following a short corner.

  •

PCarrESPN: Born and raised in Kansas.

  •

Jeff Carlisle: Born and raised in US.

  •

James Tyler: The Juan Mata part is truly baffling. That said, I'm wondering if Di Matteo (or scarier yet, Roman Abramovich) had a word there. Still, would be frustrating to have a stellar career yet never really rep your country because you're still not good enough.

  •

    [Comment from Jake]
I'm curious - are all of you guys Brits who live in the USA, are some Brits, some American, do some of you live in Britain? I can never tell and I'm kinda curious.

  •

    [Comment from Mike Dunlap]
Its pretty crazy when guys like mata and thiago dont even make the bench

  •

James Tyler: I bet Nicklas Bendtner is sad.

  •

    James Tyler: Goal! - Italy 2, Denmark 0 - Daniele De Rossi - 37'

  •

James Tyler: I'm a huge burnt ends fan. In chat terms, I'm the burnt ends to Rog Bennett's baby back platter. But it works.

  •

PCarrESPN: Sorry. I ate them all.

  •

    [Comment from Doug]
Send James some burnt ends Paul. He'll LOVE them...

  •

PCarrESPN: Miroslav Klose is the big stat winner so far today. His two goals leave him one shy of Gerd Müller's German record.

  •

James Tyler: A robust tackle by Jordi Alba on the right flank halts Menez. 21 minutes gone and barely an event of note.

  •

James Tyler: Would like to have seen Sergio Canales get a look in the La Roja squad. Sadly, he hasn't been the same since his flop of a Real Madrid move.

  •

Jeff Carlisle: I will say, it's crazy when guys like Mata and Javi Martinez are left out. I'll add Villa, Cazorla (even though he's in the game now), and Navas

  •

PCarrESPN: Arthur Bryant's was stellar as usual....I'll get right on that FedEx...

  •

James Tyler: And can you FedEx me a plate from Arthur Bryant's K THX.

  •

James Tyler: Afternoon, Paul! How are the ribs in KC?

  •

PCarrESPN: Made it, at least for a bit.

  •

    James Tyler: Goal! - Italy 1, Denmark 0 -- Riccardo Montolivo, 33'

  •

    [Comment from d]
The world is your oyster Jeffe

  •

James Tyler: This game has all the tempo of paint drying so far. A bit of a spark as Jordi Alba speeds down the left flank to meet a crossfield, raking ball by Busquets. He's flagged offside.

  •

James Tyler: Regarding Spanish subs, where's the love for SUSO?

  •

James Tyler: Yeah but did you see the moon tonight? So beautiful and it would be a shame not to have that moonlight pouring down on the likes of Wayne Rooney.

  •

    [Comment from Dave]
Why didnt they close the roof of the stadium? Is that what a retractable roof is for?

  •

James Tyler: He can dive, I suppose...

  •

    [Comment from Startled]
I wonder if Gareth can bale wales out of that 2-0 hole.

  •

Jeff Carlisle: D, are you talking guys on the bench or off? Healthy or injured?

  •

James Tyler: La Roja is sending all its attacks down the left flank. Good early work by Jordi Alba and Cazorla. His cross is caught at the near post by Lloris.

  •

    [Comment from d]
James / Jeffe - top 5 subs left out by SPAIN tonight? Go...

  •

James Tyler: 0-0 on the verge of HT, Steven.

  •

    [Comment from steven]
what's going on in the second biggest game of the night JT? of course I'm speaking of the Iceland v Switzerland match

  •

James Tyler: Debuchy fouls inside his own half. France chasing the ball without much luck in the first 16 minutes. Feels like a simulated scrimmage thus far.

  •

James Tyler: Really, Adrian? There was a delay during Euro 2012 as I recall. Game involved France and a great deal of lightning.

  •

    [Comment from Adrian]
I have never actually seen a WCQ delayed when a major European team is part of one. How could England play tomorrow if it is delayed? I think clubs have a say in this and having players arrive a day late with only a couple of days before league fixtures, they'd be against a match tomorrow.

  •

James Tyler: Goal! Croatia 2, Wales 0 - Eduardo, 58'

  •

James Tyler: Shot by Santi Cazorla from the edge of the box is low and soft. Easy smother for Lloris.

  •

    James Tyler: Yes and no.

  •

    [Comment from Aleksei]
France has the quality to compete, and should have a good chance to upset, agree?

  •

James Tyler: Xavi whacks it to the back post where Matuidi nods it out for a throw-in.

  •

James Tyler: Panic for France as Jordi Alba gets free down the left twice in quick succession and puts in some menacing crosses. Corner to Spain.

  •

    [Comment from JohnBrewinESPN via Twitter]
    Thanks for this, Adrian.

  •

James Tyler: Am I wrong for wanting the iconic Das Bomber to keep that record? Because I do. No offense to Miroslav, of course.

  •

    [Comment from mr trololo]
Klose so Klose to break Gerd Muller's record.

  •

James Tyler: SUB FOR SPAIN: Santi Cazorla on, David Silva off (a few minutes ago)

  •

James Tyler: Chance for France! Well, half-chance. Evra with a good surging run down the left cutting past Arbeloa and turning infield. The United LB steps on Busquets as the Barca man hoofed the ball clear. Foul called.

  •

    [Comment from Misty]
Pity that Spain has to use a sub to bring on Cazorla. Based on current form, I'd say he should have started ahead of Silva.

  •

James Tyler: David Silva's gone down the tunnel. Santi Cazorla hastily warming up though yet to enter. Bit cocky to go with 10 men, but they're only playing France.

  •

Jeff Carlisle: I suspect 20 years from now, Jon Walters will sit his grandchildren down and regale them with the tale of how he slew the Faroe Islands.

  •

James Tyler: Deschamps should stick to figuring out his own team.

  •

    [Comment from NYCToon]
James, whats your opinion on Deschamps claiming that Newcastle has had nothing to do with Cabaye's great play?

  •

James Tyler: UPDATE: England-Poland still delayed. Next pitch inspection's in 30 minutes.

  •

James Tyler: Goal! - Faroe Islands 0, Ireland 2 - Jon Walters, 52'

  •

James Tyler: Uh oh. Early problems for Spain as David Silva's tweaked a hamstring.

  •

James Tyler: ANNOUNCEMENT: If you've got questions for our experts that you'd like them to answer during tonight's USA v. Guatemala telecast, post them to Twitter using the #FCBootroom hashtag. The pick of the litter will be aired and responded to by Sir Ian Darke, esq, Alexi Lalas and Taylor Twellman.

  •

James Tyler: Christian Benteke misses a wide-open goal for Belgium. Still 0-0 between them and Scotland. Silly.

  •

    [Comment from JohnBrewinESPN via Twitter]
Trapattoni, an apology. The Boys In Green shall go to the Copacabana Ball.

  •

James Tyler: France breeze upfield. Debuchy's crossfield pass for Ribery is intercepted by Busquets but Les Bleus retain the ball. Benzema fouls Arbeloa in the left corner.

  •

James Tyler: (Disclaimer: no I'm not.)

  •

James Tyler: I'm in one of those, Jeff. Great fun.

  •

Jeff Carlisle: A Far East betting syndicate.

  •

James Tyler: Some prankster, I'd imagine. Sepp Blatter?

  •

    [Comment from Gooner Chris]
Who left the roof open in Warsaw when a biblical downpour was turning the pitch into a swamp?

  •

James Tyler: GOAL! - Faroe Islands 0, Ireland 1 - Jon Walters 47'

  •

James Tyler: Aye. I'm stunned too.

  •

    [Comment from Todd Britt]
    France v Spain still goalless?

  •

James Tyler: Meanwhile, Mathieu Debuchy is enjoying playing backpasses with Hugo Lloris.

  •

James Tyler: Five minutes in and France breaking up the tiki-taka reasonably well. Busquets with his first real tackle to break up Benzema's run.

  •

Jeff Carlisle: Except nasty off the ball incidents.

  •

Jeff Carlisle: Nothing is guaranteed when Carlos Ruiz is on the field.

  •

James Tyler: ANYTHING could happen. Things will definitely happen tonight. What kind of things, we can only guess.

  •

James Tyler: Indeed, Startled, BUT IT COULD HAPPEN.

  •

    [Comment from Startled]
American Fan here, JT the U.S qualifier is getting played up as more crucial than it actually is. Only way the USMNT doesn't advance is if they lose and Jamacia makes up a 3 or 4 GD against Antigua. Draw or win and its automatic advancement

  •

    [Comment from Brian]
Beligum will either be the Netherlands from the 2010 World Cup or the Netherlands from Euro 2012

  •

James Tyler: It's a solid mix. Can't have one without the other. Hard to play keep-ball when you're not talented.

  •

    Jeff Carlisle: There's a difference?

How much of Spain's possession success is based on talent, rather than technical genius?

  •

James Tyler: Goal! - Germany 2, Sweden 0. Klose's second of the game. 15'

  •

James Tyler: Well, Jim, it is qualifying. They always look good in qualifying.

  •

    [Comment from Jim from Reno]
    Germany is looking unstoppable.

  •

    [Comment from Jim from Reno]
Mesut Ozil is sporting a nice, short haircut now. Got rid of that girly headband.

  •

James Tyler: Bold. And possibly genius.

  •

    [Comment from KevNJ]
Took a bet that Belgium would do better than Mexico (if they both qualify) in the WC.

  •

James Tyler: Early jitters for France as Fabregas has a mazy little run, finally upended by Sakho on the edge of the box.

  •

James Tyler: Oh, something about the U.S in a crucial WCQ? I read about it in the paper this morning.

  •

Jeff Carlisle: Oh. That game. Yes.

  •

James Tyler: NOTE: England-Poland has been delayed due to biblical downpours.

  •

Jeff Carlisle: Tonight? What do you mean?

  •

James Tyler: Hey, Jeff! And tonight as well, I hope.

  •

Jeff Carlisle: Greetings everyone. I'm here just in time to steal JT's live chat mojo.

England manager Mike Baldwin is used to this weather from Weatherfield #england #eng @MirrorFootball

  •

James Tyler: We're off! Spain and France is a-go.

  •

  •

James Tyler: Yup. Reprising his puzzling but successful role from Euro 2012.

  •

[Comment from Youll never walk alone.]
    Fabregas playing '9'?

  •

    James Tyler: LINEUPS:
Spain (4-3-3): Casillas - Arbeloa, Ramos, Busquets, Jordi Alba - Xavi, Xabi Alonso, Iniesta - Pedro, Fabregas, David Silva.

France (4-3-2-1): Llori - Debuchy, Koscielny, Sakho, Evra - Matuidi, Gonalons, Cabaye - Menez, Ribery - Benzema.

  •

James Tyler: That said, this tournament cycle is their best chance for quite some time. Stacked with talent. If the egos simmer down and don't cause trouble, they'll advance.

  •

James Tyler: They are the Balotellis of international football, Jesse. Preternaturally gifted yet wonderfully flawed.

  •

    [Comment from Jesse N.]
Is Belgium in good shape to qualify, JT? They seem like an up and coming powerhouse.

  •

James Tyler: Spanish national anthem: jauntiest anthem around?

  •

    James Tyler: #FireTrapattoni

  •

    [Comment from canyonhawk]
Ireland appear to have found their equal.

  •

James Tyler: Belgium all over Scotland in the first 10 minutes. No goals but four big saves by Allan McGregor already.

  •

    [Comment from JohnBrewinESPN via Twitter]
Hang on, did I just hear Roy Keane laugh? I think I did.

  •

James Tyler: Meanwhile, the England-Poland game promises to be hilarious good fun. Pitch is as waterlogged as the Antigua turf that the USMNT swam through on Friday night. Game temporarily delayed, from what I can tell. Too wet.

  •

James Tyler: Hmm. 2-1 Spain but not as close as that scoreline might suggest.

  •

    [Comment from BK]
James, what's your final score prediction for Spain-France?

  •

James Tyler: They must have heard you, d.

  •

James Tyler: GOAL! Germany 1, Sweden 0 - Miroslav Klose 8'

  •

James Tyler: FOR THE USMNT v. GUATEMALA GAME TONIGHT: New Boot Room for that. Begins at 6.30pm ET. Will be on ESPNFC.com for the link.

  •

James Tyler: To reiterate: I'm following Spain v. France, which you can watch live on ESPN2 and WatchESPN.com. I will also be updating you on all the hot, steamy UEFA action as we plough through the afternoon.

  •

James Tyler: Scoreless after 10, D. Pathetic, really.

  •

    [Comment from d]
How long before ze Germans score?

  •

    James Tyler: Um, yes?

  •

    [Comment from Spurs4life]
    and Montenegro are minnows ?

  •

James Tyler: Goal! Hungary 0, Turkey 1 - Mevlut Erdinc, 22'

That Polish media officer is no Adrian Bevington.

  •

    [Comment from JohnBrewinESPN via Twitter]
@NickMillerF365 Yes, my comment piece is postponed 24 hours.

  •

James Tyler: POTENTIAL UPSET ALERT: Ukraine 0, Montenegro 1 - Dejan Damjanovic on the cusp of half-time. #LetsGoMinnows

  •

James Tyler: Didier Deschamps is very good at his job.

  •

    [Comment from Matt]
Did i read that correctly? France have 2 keepers on the bench?

  •

James Tyler: Was speaking more on his long road back from injury, missing Euro 2012, etc. Be nice for him to get reacquainted with international football in a decent game like this.

  •

    [Comment from Peter]
    is villa having confidence issues?

  •

James Tyler: If you were Spanish and good at football, wouldn't you want to score goals and look good doing it? Defending is a mug's game.

  •

    [Comment from JohnBrewinESPN via Twitter]
Hurray, it's raining in Poland so let's relive racism week from 2011.

  •

    [Comment from Brian]
How does Spain have all those midfielders and no CBs?

  •

  •

James Tyler: I'll say David Villa because he could use the confidence boost more.

  •

    [Comment from Daniel]
Who's more likely to come on: villa/torres?

  •

James Tyler: Possibly related question: is your girlfriend Hristo Stoichkov? My fave Bulgarian of all time.

  •

    [Comment from JohnBrewinESPN via Twitter]
    @MikeWade84 Can't reveal that.

  •

James Tyler: 0-0 at half time. So, no.

  •

    [Comment from KevNJ]
Anything doing in the Bulgaria/Czech match? Girlfriend is Bulgarian and she's asking.

  •

    [Comment from JohnBrewinESPN via Twitter]
*Insert Felix Baumgatner dive joke here*

  •

James Tyler: England's subs, for those asking: Walker, Ruddy, Baines, Cahill, Shawcross, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Shelvey, Lennon, Johnson, Carroll, Welbeck, Forster.

  •

James Tyler: France - Rami, Valbuena, Giroud, Sissoko, Jallet, Mandanda, Gomis, Capoue, Clichy, Landreau.

  •

James Tyler: You could win a Euro 2012 group with that bench.

  •

    James Tyler: SUBS:
Spain - Albiol, Nacho Monreal (awesome name), Javi Martinez, Juanfran, David Villa, Torres, Valdes, Benat, Soldado, Santi Cazorla, Jesus Navas, Pepe Reina.

I think what the Warsaw Stadium needs is a burst of Oceana's Endless Summer. #euro2012

  •

James Tyler: Step one on his path to world domination. Love it.

  •

    [Comment from Walt White]
Thoughts on Jonjo getting a cap?

  •

James Tyler: Goal! Cyprus 1, Norway 1. Brede Hangeland, who could have played for the USA, equalizes for the visitors on 44 minutes.

  •

    [Comment from JohnBrewinESPN via Twitter]
ITV and co: the roof was not always closed in Warsaw Stadium. It's one of the best stadia I have been to. Can't speak for the drainage.

  •

James Tyler: Rog is busy in Kansas City, prepping for the 6.30pm ET Boot Room. USA v. Guatemala. Join us for that. Sorry, Joe.

  •

    [Comment from Joe]
Not that I don't love your commentary, but where's rog??

  •

James Tyler: That's me. Hate them. Tapas is the devil's food. Obviously.

  •

    [Comment from Paul]
Yes because France have the mentality and personnel of that Inter team ... James " I hate Spain" Tyler

  •

James Tyler: Pog, it's called karma for Gareth Bale's lugubrious, unforgivable dive vs. Scotland.

  •

    [Comment from Pog]
HT: Croatia 1-0 Wales. Wales has been a mess, but Croatia has managed only one goal, off a comical breakdown in the Welsh defense.

  •

James Tyler: After all, how can we ever know? What would the Mighty Magyars do vs. this Spain squad, for example? Or the Dutch of the 70s? Brazil 1970 vs. France 1998? All just opinion, really.

  •

James Tyler: Oh, silly Franc. Everyone knows that the world hates strong opinions. I could say they're the best and 50 people will shout me down. Trying to be impartial to a degree, not to mention acknowledge that ranking all-time great national teams is a fool's errand.

  •

    [Comment from Franc]
So does Spain have to win this next world cup before some stop saying "arguably" oh you know they only won an international treble but who is counting? Spanish hate all around Soccernet

  •

James Tyler: GOAL - Romania 1, Netherlands 3 - van der Vaart 45+2 (PK)

  •

    [Comment from JohnBrewinESPN via Twitter]
BREAKING NEWS: It's raining in Poland. Thought I'd be first to say it.

  •

James Tyler: GOAL - Cyprus 1, Norway 0 - The wonderfully named Efstathios Aloneftis with the goal.

  •

James Tyler: Penalty for the Netherlands! Luciano Narsingh tugged down by Gabriel Tamas. Harsh, that.

  •

James Tyler: Also known as the "Mourinho Gambit." Worked like a charm when he managed Inter to a CL semi win over Barcelona.

  •

    [Comment from Christian]
France's lineup looks like it'll just cede the midfield to Spain. Like Ribery and Menez will track back...LOL

  •

    [Comment from JohnBrewinESPN via Twitter]
Gabriel Clarke sounds like he's underwater. Must be a dodgy mic.

  •

James Tyler: Also, a backline with Koscielny and Sakho? Evra arguably in decline..

  •

James Tyler: It's tough because the midfield has tons of talent to pick from yet he's not assembled it properly yet.

  •

    [Comment from Scott]
Not sure Didier even has the correct parts, much putting them on the field at the right time in the right place.

  •

    James Tyler: GOAL - Bosnia/Herzegovina 2, Lithuania 0 - Edin Dzeko, 35'

  •

James Tyler: I'll say the Prem, and I'll say somewhere like Tottenham. I reckon his stock will drop enough this season for someone like Daniel Levy to steal him on the cheap-ish.

  •

    [Comment from Walt White]
Where will Llorente end up this summer?

  •

James Tyler: Remember who the manager is, a man who could turn gold into cardboard with a single glare.

  •

    [Comment from Peter]
    wow england are playing narrow

  •

James Tyler: Love that he's making a comeback of sorts. Always felt like his injuries came at the worst time given the rise of other Brazilian maestros in midfield. That said, he's clearly worked hard enough to merit more time with the Selecao.

  •

    [Comment from JohnBrewinESPN via Twitter]
That roof made it roasting hot in the first match of the Euros. Poland rely on a pressing game. It was a relief when they left it off v RUS.

  •

    [Comment from Walt White]
    Thoughts on Kaka?

  •

James Tyler: Thinking a loose and fun 4-3-3 for both. We'll see in 20 mins time.

  •

James Tyler: FRANCE: Lloris - Debuchy, Sakho, Koscielny, Evra - Cabaye, Matuidi, Gonalons - Menez, Benzema, Ribery.

  •

James Tyler: SPAIN: Casillas - Arbeloa, Busquets, Sergio Ramos, Jordi Alba - Iniesta, Xabi Alonso, Xavi - Pedro, Fabregas, David Silva. Something like that.

  •

    [Comment from JohnBrewinESPN via Twitter]
Roy's rolls: Looks like Coronation Street will be repeated if this doesn't happen.

  •

James Tyler: LINEUPS... SPAIN v. FRANCE

  •

James Tyler: 33%. Odds on Spain to cruise at home. After all, close to full-strength (except in defense) and Didier Deschamps is still finding the right blend for his nouveaux Les Bleus.

  •

[Comment from Youll never walk alone.]
Good afternoon Mr.Tyler. What do you think the chances are for France to come out with at least 1 point today?

  •

James Tyler: I have approximately 17 tabs open.

  •

    [Comment from Ian (LFC)]
Are we keeping tabs on the tastiest match of the day? (Italy-Denmark, FYI)

  •

James Tyler: Goal for Romania! The Dutch have looked comfortable but a lovely move on 39 minutes has the home side within a goal. Ciprian Marica at the top of the box. Biff. Low shot. Stekelenburg flailing. ROM 1, NED 2.

  •

James Tyler: I would too. At least on current form. Llorente's malaise has been concerning since he failed to engineer a summer transfer away from Bilbao.

  •

    [Comment from d]
Lorente vs Torres? I'd still pick fabregas

  •

James Tyler: Stop Spain hogging so much of the ball, something I'm not convinced they can handle.

  •

    [Comment from Scott]
James, what does Les Bleus have to do in order to compete today?

  •

James Tyler: England lineup, anyone? Hart - Johnson, Jagielka, Lescott, Ashley Cole - Gerrard, Carrick - Milner, Rooney, Cleverly - Defoe.

  •

    [Comment from JohnBrewinESPN via Twitter]
    Roy is muttering again.

  •

James Tyler: I'd give him 50/50 odds. He did acquit himself reasonably in limited action at Euro 2012, absurdly winning the Golden Boot for his scoring rate off the bench. All in all, not bad at all for Del Bosque to have such options. Though Torres isn't the striker he once was, he doesn't need to be when backed by Spain's ridiculously talented midfield corps.

  •

    [Comment from kev]
hi there. what's the chances that Torres can re-claim a starting spot with Spain? His competition is still Villa but he isn't 100% and getting older, Negredo who may arguably be worse, Soldaldo and of course several younger guys on the way up. Not to mention the whole "playing with no striker thing" the manager has been up to.

  •

James Tyler: A break in-between. This will shutter around 5pm for a quick clean, then re-open again at 6.30 when the ESPN2 live telecast begins.

  •

    [Comment from Ian (LFC)]
Howdy James, is this Boot Room running until the US game or is there a break in the action?

  •

  •

James Tyler: Will do all that good stuff shortly, Bryan. Just getting settled in. Looong afternoon and evening ahead.

  •

    [Comment from Bryan]
Do you have the lineups for Spain v France yet?

  •

James Tyler: Actually think he'll fare quite well, especially if he's forced to mark Karim Benzema. The Real Madrid striker did little in the recent Clasico.

  •

    [Comment from BK]
JT, how do you think Busquets will do as a center back with Ramos?

  •

James Tyler: Boot Room = USA. Though we welcome all comes. MatchDay Live is run by our London desk.

  •

    [Comment from Danny]
Gentlemen can you please explain the difference between "MatchDay Live" chat and "Boot Room" chat?

  •

James Tyler: I've got the ghost of Burgess Meredith here, Pog. Have no fear. His words of encouragement and copious wet sponge collection have me in fine fettle.

  •

    [Comment from Pog]
Slow & steady, everyone! Ice your fingers down between Boot Rooms to avoid strain.

  •

James Tyler: I've got Poland-England on the iPad, and to warm up, some Romania-Netherlands until Spain kicks off at 3pm ET.

  •

James Tyler: And I'm watching SPAIN vs. FRANCE, two titans of the UEFA scene. Arguably the best national team of the past 25 years hosting the most disappointing side of the last decade. Except, of course, for England.

  •

James Tyler: It's an early boot room to excite the palate before US v. Guatemala's Boot Room kicks off at 6.30pm.

  •

James Tyler: Happy Tuesday to one and all...
