Philadelphia 1-0 Atlanta

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Conny Pohlers scored in the 31st minute,

and goalkeeper Briana Scurry got her league-leading sixth shutout

as the Atlanta Beat defeated the Philadelphia Charge 1-0 Wednesday

night.

Scurry got her league-leading eighth victory as Atlanta (9-3-4)

won its third straight game. The first-place Beat lead idle Boston

by six points in the MLS after handing the Charge (3-9-4) their

third straight loss.

Pohlers knocked in a loose ball from just inside the penalty

area for her fourth goal. The score came moments after Atlanta's

Cindy Parlow appeared to be offsides, but play was allowed to

continue.

Scurry got her 19th career shutout and fourth against

Philadelphia by stopping all six shots, including three by leading

Marinette Pichon. Scurry made a diving save on Pichon's shot in the

82nd minute.

Still, Philadelphia, winless in six games, was unlucky on two

scoring chances in the first half. Melanie Hoffmann's shot hit the

crossbar in the fourth minute, and Anne Makinen hit the left post

in the 39th.
