Torino 1-3 Piacenza

TURIN, April 13 (Serie A) - Two late goals maintained Piacenza`s slim hopes of top-flight survival and pushed Torino one step closer to Serie B.

Torino went into the match rock bottom in Serie A and nine points from safety, while Piacenza were only one point better off.

The hosts had a glimpse of victory in the 59th minute when Alessandro Conticchio fired home, but, just one minute later, Enzo Maresca levelled matters.

Eusebio Di Francesco fired the visitors ahead in the 83rd minute and Claudio Ferrarese made sure of the three points with a third goal at the death.

The game was even for the most part, with both sides creating chances, but Piacenza came strong at the finish to blow away their opponents.

Coach Luigi Cagni will hoping their season has such a sting in the tail.

Torino carved out the first chance of the game in the 24th minute when Oluwashegun Omolade crossed from the right wing.

Alessandro Conticchio got his head to the ball inside the penalty box, but Piacenza goalkeeper Paolo Orlandoni saved with his left hand.

A minute later Orlandoni`s team-mates were causing a threat at the other end.

Ciro De Cesare got in a strong shot, but Stefano Sorrentino in the Torino goal diverted the ball wide for a corner.

Right before half-time, De Cesare was making a nuisance of himself again.

This time he crossed the ball in from the right side of the box and found Marco Marchionni, who had plenty of time to make plans for his header but still could not beat Sorrentino.

In the 56th minute, things opened up for Toro midfielder Vincenzo Sommese after a great pass from Paolo Castellini.

Sommese found himself alone with only Orlandoni to beat but produced a weak shot.

A minute later that was all forgotten when Torino took the lead.

Castellini again did well, flighting in a good cross from the left side which gave Conticchio a great opportunity to head in, and it was one he did not waste.

His joy was short-lived, as Piacenza hit back instantly.

Maresca did brilliantly to bury the ball in the back of the net from a free-kick just outside the penalty area.

Piacenza almost had a second when Sorrentino pushed the ball to De Cesare after a shot by Dario Hubner, but De Cesare missed the target.

Sorrentino then made a great save to keep out a De Cesare header before Piacenza eventually got their second breakthrough.

The ball was flying all around the Torino penalty area when Di Francesco managed to get a foot on it to knock it across the goal line.

Ferrarese rounded off the win with another goal from a free-kick.
