Torquay 1-1 Rushden & D'monds: FT Report
Former Torquay striker Duane Darby scored a superb equaliser against his former club as promotion-chasing Rushden & Diamonds came back to earn a 1-1 draw.
Darby lobbed Torquay goalkeeper Kevin Dearden from 30 yards after 57 minutes to deservedly drag the Diamonds back on level terms in a second half that they completely dominated.
It was his 10th goal of the season and third in four days following his brace against Shrewsbury on New Year's Day.
But it was the home side who were on top before the break and they took the lead after 39 minutes through Jason Fowler's penalty, after livewire midfielder Kevin Wills had been fouled by Stuart Gray.
Torquay wasted several more chances and could have been out of sight by half-time if only they had shown a bit more composure in front of goal.
But they could not keep up their efforts in the second half and in the end were grateful to hang on as Brian Talbot's Rushden stormed back.
