Gary Alexander's 25th-minute striker secured an unconvincing 1-0 victory for Hull City as Peter Taylor's side got their promotion bid back on track.
Hull had taken just one point from their last two games but bounced back from their New Year's Day defeat at Bury thanks to Alexander's seventh goal of the season.
Alexander struck after Stuart Green's corner was headed goalwards by John Anderson, only for Rovers goalkeeper Scott Howie to parry the ball into his path.
Hull fully deserved their lead after having the better of an open start to the game, which saw Stuart Elliott and Lawrie Dudfield come close.
But Rovers missed a clear-cut opening after Wayne Carlisle's free-kick had been headed goalwards by Paul Tait only for Hull keeper Paul Musselwhite to produce a stunning double save.
The only chance of a scrappy second half went to Dudfield, but he poked the ball wide when he was put clean through by strike partner Alexander.
