Chances were few and far between in a drab 0-0 draw between Darlington and Macclesfield, but a 20-man brawl and two dismissals brought drama to a far from festive afternoon.
The first half was forgettable, with neither keeper coming under threat, but the game exploded in the second period.
Home striker Barry Conlon took a swipe at a loose ball which nestled close to Macclesfield's prone David Eaton, sparking a mass melee before peace was restored and Conlon shown a red card after 55 minutes.
Macclesfield captain Darren Tinson was booked for what appeared to be an innocuous challenge and then Darlington's Clark Keltie was shown a yellow card for another tame offence.
Town debutant Michael Carr was then sent off for his second bookable offence in the 75th minute after a reckless tug at Keltie's shirt.
