Bury conceded their first goal in over six hours as Lancashire neighbours Rochdale carved out a 1-1 draw at Gigg Lane.
Bury, whose home form has been their Achilles heel this season, took a deserved second-half lead when leading scorer Jon Newby converted his 10th goal of the season after 62 minutes.
But then Rochdale found a way through Bury`s scrooge-like defence - albeit controversially - in the 66th minute.
Lee McEvilly appeared to handle as he controlled the ball but referee Roy Pearson waved play on and Glyn Garner could not keep the ball out of his net.
Bury hit the post and had two other efforts cleared off the line, while Garner did well to keep out late efforts by McEvilly and Gavin Melaugh.
