Skipper Andy Gurney and Sam Parkin struck to clinch a deserved 2-1 win for Swindon over Brentford at the County Ground.
Gurney fired the home team in front in only the second minute with a close-range finish after Matt Heywood had headed a corner goalwards and only the brilliance of young keeper Alan Julian prevented the Robins going further in front before the break.
Julian, making his league debut, flung himself to his left in the 25th minute to deny Parkin after Steve Robinson's mis-hit shot fell neatly into his path.
Julian also parried Gurney's fiercely struck 30-yard free kick on 38 minutes, while he also denied Matt Hewlett from the edge of the area.
Brentford's troubles increased six minutes after the restart when midfielder Jamie Fullarton was dismissed for a two-footed tackle on Luke Nightingale and Swindon took full advantage by doubling their lead in the 66th minute.
Parkin was left unmarked at a corner and had no trouble in heading home his 15th goal of the season from four yards out.
Brentford striker Rowan Vine reduced the arrears on 75 minutes with an unstoppable right-foot shot but Parkin and Danny Invincible should have restored Swindon's two-goal lead as they wasted golden chances before the final whistle.
