Scott Chaplain and David Hopkirk fired lowly Annan to a surprise 2-0 win over second-placed Queen's Park.
Chaplain made it 10 goals for the season after 28 minutes and Hopkirk matched that tally to wrap up the victory late on.
The visitors, who kicked off 24 points behind Rangers, almost took an early lead when Blair Spittal's shot was tipped round the post by Alex Mitchell and, from the corner, Hopkirk cleared Michael Keenan's header.
But Annan went ahead moments after Neil Parry had made a fine save from Michael Daly.
Queen's Park never totally cleared the corner and when Hopkirk swung in another cross, Chaplain was on hand to sweep the ball past Parry.
Mitchell twice saved well from Aidan Connolly to preserve Annan's lead, and they sealed the points seven minutes from time when Hopkirk tucked in Daly's pass.
