Bologna battle back

Lazaros Christodoulopoulos celebrates after netting the winner on his debut

Bologna came from a goal down to stun Fiorentina, who missed out on the opportunity to move into the top four in Serie A.

La Viola took the lead in the re-arranged clash before the half-hour courtesy of Adem Ljajic's finish in the area.

But the hosts hit back just before the hour mark when Marco Motta headed into the net from a corner and Greece midfielder Lazaros Christodoulopoulos slotted home six minutes from time to help Bologna move eight points clear of the relegation zone.

There was still time for veteran striker Luca Toni to miss a gilt-edged chance late on, which ensured Fiorentina went home empty handed.

Tonight's encounter had been pushed back two days due to heavy snow at the Renato Dall'Ara.

And it seemed La Viola's minds were elsewhere as on-loan Juventus forward Manolo Gabbiadini struck the post in the opening minutes.

Perhaps stung into action, Fiorentina responded although when Ljajic teed up the unmarked Juan Cuadrado, the Colombian somehow missed the target from close range.

Ljajic then struck wide from a decent position before giving the visitors a 27-minute lead.

Some good work from on-loan Palermo midfielder Giulio Migliaccio and Cuadrado freed Aquilani, who set up Serbian forward Ljajic to drill past Bologna goalkeeper Gianluca Curci.

Alberto Gilardino was denied by Fiorentina shot-stopper Emiliano Viviano soon after, while at the other end Ljajic only just failed to get on the end of compatriot Nenad Tomovic's cross from the right.

It was a crucial let-off for the Rossoblu, who levelled in the 58th minute when the unmarked Motta headed high into the net from a corner.

Alessandro Diamanti then wriggled free of two defenders but his cross just evaded the on-rushing players, while the Bologna captain could only direct a header straight at Viviano.

Bologna continued on the front foot, with Saphir Taider shooting inches wide of the post when through on goal, while Christodoulopoulos also missed the target from close range.

The Greek would make amends two minutes later, however, slotting home from the edge of the area having collected the ball from the influential Diamanti.

Stevan Jovetic forced a decent save from Curci as Fiorentina went in search of a leveller in the closing stages but it was former Italy striker Toni who was culpable for passing up an excellent opportunity.

The 35-year-old was left unmarked in the six-yard area but contrived to head over from Borja Valero's cross from the right wing.
