Herd brace blows Ayr away

Michael Herd struck an impressive brace as East Stirling overcame an Ayr fightback to win 3-1 in the first round of the Ramsdens Cup.

The home side went ahead just before the half-hour, Ricky Miller setting up Herd who lashed his effort into the bottom-right corner.

Herd grabbed his second three minutes before half-time, sweeping home a David Greenhill pass from close range.

Ayr pulled a goal back within five minutes of the second half thanks to Mark Shankland's rasping 20-yard drive, which gave Grant Hay no chance.

But Scott Maxwell made the game safe for East Stirling with four minutes remaining when he made space in the area to hammer home a Craig Hume cross.
