Charlton Athletic 1-1 Leyton Orient
Ryan Brunt held his nerve to score the decisive spot-kick in a 4-3 Capital One Cup penalty shootout win for Leyton Orient at npower Championship side Charlton.
Charlton took the lead on 28 minutes when another summer signing, Jordan Cook, picked out Scott Wagstaff and the winger's drive from inside the box took a slight deflection off the unfortunate Gary Sawyer before beating Orient keeper Ryan Allsop.
Danny Green could have made it two with a curling shot that flew behind but it was the League One side who struck deep into first-half stoppage-time when Sawyer's corner was headed home by Mathieu Baudry.
Orient were awarded a penalty four minutes after the break following a challenge by Lawrie Wilson on David Mooney.
Mooney, a former Charlton player, stepped up to take the spot-kick but saw his effort hit the crossbar.
Charlton manager Chris Powell was ordered to the stands by referee Gavin Ward after kicking a bottle away following the award of an Orient free-kick before the tie headed for extra-time.
There was nothing to separate the two sides as the game went to penalties, where misses from Johnnie Jackson and Wilson proved crucial as the Addicks crashed out.
