Eintracht Frankfurt 4-1 Werder Bremen

Eintracht Frankfurt moved up to fourth in the Bundesliga with a four-goal second-half salvo to down Werder Bremen 4-1 at the Waldstadion.

After a goalless first half, Alexander Meier scored his 10th goal of the season to give Armin Veh's side the lead.

Nils Petersen brought Bremen level soon after, but two goals in a minute from Pirmin Schwegler and Stefan Aigner put Frankfurt in the driving seat before Takashi Inui rounded off the win in the last minute.

Both sides came into the game with mixed fortunes, Frankfurt having slipped down the table with just one win from their last seven games while Bremen have closed in on them, thanks in part to a spectacular 4-1 win over Hoffenheim last weekend.

There was nothing spectacular about the way they played out the first 45 minutes at the Waldstadion, though.

Apart from a shot which missed the target from the ever-dangerous Meier and a wasted three against two on the break from Bremen, there was little in the way of danger.

Petersen's 37th-minute goal was ruled out for a foul by the Bremen striker, but nobody came any closer to breaking the deadlock until tactical changes were carried out during the interval.

Frankfurt made the better adjustments and took the lead in the 47th minute, with Meier heading in Bastian Oczipka's cross from the left wing.

Petersen levelled seven minutes later with a close-range header from Marko Arnautovic's right-wing cross.

Schwegler restored Frankfurt's advantage in the 62nd minute with a shot from fully 30 yards into the bottom corner.

Bremen were not given time to recover from the shock as Aigner doubled Frankfurt's advantage, pouncing on the ball inside the penalty area after Lukas Schmitz slipped and slotting it in.

Bremen tried to find a way back into the game, but ran out of time to do so with Inui adding a fourth with almost the last kick of the game, dribbling round Sebastian Mielitz and dispatching the ball into the unguarded goal.
