Bulgaria made sure they remained in second place in 2014 World Cup qualification Group B with a win against Malta.
Malta goalkeeper Justin Haber inadvertently put the visitors ahead when he scored a 10th-minute own goal and Emil Gargorov scored for Bulgaria just before the hour mark.
Edward Herrera pulled one back for Malta in the 77th minute but it was not enough to change the course of the match.
The result left Bulgaria on 13 points - one ahead of Denmark, who defeated Armenia 1-0 - with Italy still holding on to top spot.
Nikolay Bodurov almost put Bulgaria ahead in the fourth minute when he fired over the bar from close range, but his side did not have to wait too much longer to take the lead when Haber's error from Radoslav Dimitrov's cross gave them the edge.
Bulgaria goalkeeper Nikolay Mihailov then denied Malta an equaliser from Clayton Failla's free-kick when he tipped the ball around the post.
Gargorov saw his strike flash over the bar midway through the second half but he did not miss after the break, finding the bottom right-hand corner.
Herrera halved the deficit when he converted Josh Vella's cross, but it was scant consolation for Malta, who remained bottom of the group with only three points.
