RKC Waalwijk came from behind to share the points with mid-table rivals Heracles Almelo in the Eredivisie.
Everton missed a first-half penalty for the home side, but they quickly made amends with Lerin Duarte scoring the opener.
But RKC replied through Jeff Stans shortly after the interval, marking the midfielder's first goal for the club.
After a slow start, Everton had the first glimpse of goal in the 23rd minute with a shot which was well held by visiting goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet.
The Brazilian striker then had a header cleared off the line by Henrico Drost, but was given the chance to open the scoring after 39 minutes when team-mate Samuel Armenteros was brought down in the area by Guy Ramos.
Everton failed to make the most of the opportunity, firing his spot-kick past the left post, but Heracles were in front three minutes later when Duarte slipped a shot past Zoet into the bottom left corner.
RKC responded on the stroke of half-time with a 16-yard drive from Geoffrey Castillion, who fired inches past the right post.
And the visitors were level seven minutes into the second half when Stans opened his RKC account by turning in a pass from Mitchell Schet.
Heracles pressed in a bid to regain the upper hand and Marko Vejnovic was unfortunate to see his effort trickle past the right post.
And substitute Daryl Van Mieghem looked to snatch a win for the home side in stoppage time but Zoet was equal to the challenge of his free-kick.
