Viktor Elm scored twice as Heerenveen won comfortably at home to VVV-Venlo to keep up their bid for European qualification next season.
Heerenveen lie fifth in the Eredivisie table after a win which also saw Filip Djuricic and Bas Dost score while VVV, whose consolation goal came from Barry Maguire, are in the bottom three.
VVV's Yanic Wildschut set up Danny Holla with the game only five minutes old, but Heerenveen goalkeeper Brian Vandenbussche was equal to the effort.
Heerenveen responded when defender Michel Breuer crossed to Dost, but the Eredivisie's leading scorer missed with his header.
When VVV failed to clear another home attack Oussama Assaidi shot just wide and after 17 minutes Heerenveen were ahead.
Assaidi passed to Djuricic and his centre set up Elm for an easy chance which he converted.
VVV had an immediate chance to level the scores, but Michael Uchebo's shot from close range was saved by Vandenbussche.
Wildschut then carved out a chance when he dribbled the ball and then found his captain Marcel Meeuwis, but he wasted the opening with a poor shot.
Dost missed the ball when Assaidi crossed on the half hour, but Djuricic was on hand at the back post to make it 2-0.
Assaidi continued to lead the Heerenveen attacking effort, but saw a shot come back off the inside of a post before VVV keeper Dennis Gentenaar blocked his next effort with his body.
VVV pulled a goal back just after the hour as Wildschut's run down the left and pass set Maguire free and he made no mistake with a shot from 20 yards.
Gentenaar kept the lead at one goal with a brilliant save from a Dost header. Elm netted from the rebound, but his effort was disallowed for offside.
With five minutes to go Elm headed in Heerenveen's third goal from a cross by Assaidi.
And Dost took his tally to the season to 23 goals as he made it 4-1 after being sent free before lobbing Gentenaar.
