FC Twente missed the chance to go top of the Eredivisie table tonight as they were held by struggling ADO Den Haag.
Glynor Plet scored a 62nd-minute equaliser for Steve McClaren's men to cancel out Ebi Smolarek's early opener.
Today's draw was the third time this month Twente have dropped points and left them a point behind leaders AZ Alkmaar and level with second-placed Ajax, both of whom have a game in hand.
ADO started strongly and in the fifth minute Lex Immers broke forward and, after his first shot was blocked by defender Douglas, headed the loose ball to Stanley Elbers, whose shot was tipped away for a corner by Sander Boschker.
The hosts went in front a minute later, though, as former Poland striker Smolarek lashed a shot into the top corner after the ball had broken to him.
The goal seemed to rouse the visitors and Ola John latched on to a header from Plet and fired in a shot which keeper Gino Coutinho deflected behind.
Roberto Rosales created a chance for Plet early in the second half, but the striker's shot was week and did not trouble Coutinho.
Plet made no mistake as the same two players linked up again just after the hour mark, though, heading home a cross from the right.
Former ADO striker Wesley Verhoek, who joined Twente in January, came on for his debut for the visitors in the 82nd minute and he almost won it deep into stoppage time.
Played in by Willem Janssen's pass, Verhoek, who made more than 150 league appearances for ADO, fired a shot against the post as Twente had to settle for a point.
