Yoan Gouffran set Bordeaux on their way to victory as Auxerre slipped to the bottom of the Ligue 1 table following tonight's loss.
Gouffran netted a brace inside the opening five minutes, while Ludovic Sane added a third in the ninth minute, with Jaroslav Plasil all but ending the game as a contest two minutes after half-time.
To their credit, Alain Traore and Olivier Kapo pulled goals back for the hosts but it was a case of too little, too late.
Auxerre went into the fixture on the back of two consecutive wins and, although they are only two points adrift of safety, they must travel to Marseille before hosting title-chasing Montpellier in their final two games of the season.
It hardly seems possible they could be relegated to Ligue 2 as they were competing against Real Madrid in the Champions League two years ago.
However, they were on the back foot from the off tonight as, after Georges Mandjeck lost the ball, Ludovic Obraniak quickly released Gouffran at the edge of the penalty area and his left-foot shot beat goalkeeper Olivier Sorin.
Things went from bad to worse with Gouffran once again to the fore.
The striker latched on to Jussie's ball before dribbling past a defender and striking at Sorin, who could only parry the ball into the net.
Sane then added a third after heading home from Ludovic Obraniak's corner to leave the hosts staring down the barrel.
Gouffran nearly had a hat-trick in the first 15 minutes but his 25-yard strike cannoned off the cross bar.
It mattered little as Plasil netted Bordeaux's fourth with a low drive after he had latched on to Jussie's through ball.
Traore grabbed a consolation with a tap in after Kapo headed against the crossbar from Dennis Oliech's cross in the 67th minute.
Traore then crossed from the left and towards the area where Kapo chested the ball and volleyed right foot to beat Cedric Carrasso 10 minutes from time to add a level of respectability to the score.
