Seventh Heaven for Morton
First Division Morton secured safe passage into the second round of the Co-Operative Insurance Cup with an emphatic 7-1 win over Third Division Stranraer at Stair Park.
After going close to taking an early lead when Kevin McKinley's long-range effort came back off a post, the Ton went ahead after 27 minutes through Stewart Kean's left-footed strike.
Just four minutes later Allan Moore's side doubled their advantage when Graeme Holmes volleyed home.
Kean netted his second and Morton's third when he slotted home Carli Monti's cross before Monti himself got on the scoresheet to make it 4-0.
Stuart McColm netted a consolation for the Blues after 55 minutes, but Morton continued going forward and Peter Weatherston struck on 71 and 76 minutes before Kevin Kelbie netted a late seventh.
