Kirk nets brace in romp
Andy Kirk's brace proved decisive as Dunfermline swept aside the challenge of Arbroath in a 5-2 cup win.
The visitors took the lead in the 12th minute when Paul Sheerin headed in Gavin Swankie's corner but Dunfermline were level two minutes later when Kirk headed home Joe Cardle's cross from the left.
The sides were locked together until late on before a flurry of goals confirmed the hosts' progress.
Paul Willis put them ahead in the 74th minute after Kirk had played him in and two minutes later Kirk volleyed in another fine Cardle cross.
Steven McDougall then made it four with a curling strike from the edge of the area before Swankie pulled one back with two minutes left from 20 yards.
There was still time for the home side to get their fifth goal when Stuart Malcolm diverted a cross into his own net in stoppage time.
