Boldiszar Bodor went from hero to villain for Roda JC this evening as the Kerkrade outfit relinquished their lead late on against fellow relegation candidates FC Volendam.

The Hungary defender opened the scoring after 26 minutes but was then sent off 14 minutes later, leaving Roda to see out the second half with 10 men.

Numbers were evened up two minutes after the restart when Yannick de Wit was dismissed for a second bookable offence, but the visitors nevertheless went away with a point thanks to substitute Melvin Platje's 83rd-minute equaliser.

Harm van Veldhoven's team would have leapfrogged their opponents and moved up to 15th with two matches of the regular season remaining had they held on, but instead remain second from bottom, a point behind their guests.

Roda will be wondering how they did not have the game wrapped up by the interval after dominating the first 45 minutes.

Sekou Cisse had the first shot of note after seven minutes but was foiled by Volendam goalkeeper Jeroen Verhoeven.

Six minutes later, the hosts were denied by the crossbar from Edwin Linssen's inswinging corner, and then Cisse's close-range attempt was cleared off the line by Gerry Koning.

The deadlock was broken after 26 minutes, when Bodor latched on to Davy de Fauw's cross and side-footed past Verhoeven.

Bodor's evening was ended five minutes before half-time, however, when he was shown a straight red card for a tackle from behind on Tim Bakens.

De Wit's dismissal in the 47th minute for a foul on Laurent Delorge made it 10 against 10, but Volendam then went close to restoring parity when Dominique van Dijk fired a left-footed shot just wide of the left-hand upright.

Roda almost established a two-goal cushion 19 minutes from time but Verhoeven did brilliantly to claw away a Marcel de Jong header which looked to have been destined for the top corner.

Verhoeven again had to be alert eight minutes later to make a fine double save, first from Cisse and then from a close-range Willem Janssen effort on the rebound.

Those misses proved costly seven minutes from the end when Van Dijk's cross found substitute Platje, who slotted past Bram Castro to make it 1-1.

Roda had one late chance to get their noses back in front when De Fauw got his head to De Jong's cross but, with Verhoeven beaten, Henny Schilder cleared off the line.
