Sedan 0-2 Toulouse

SEDAN, April 8 (Ligue 1) - Late strikes from Paulo Cesar and Albin Ebondo saw Toulouse move into third place and damage Sedan's chances of avoiding the drop.

Cesar struck with a well-taken solo goal 12 minutes from time before Ebondo made sure with an emphatic second in the game's closing stages.

Sedan began the game positively and pushed hard to find an all-important opener.

Mansour Boutabout intercepted in the third minute and played an inviting ball across the six-yard box for Joseph-Desire Job, but the Cameroonian fluffed his shot and spurned a glorious opportunity.

Boutabout was again involved when Sedan came close in the 20th minute. Yoann Lachor played a deep ball into the area from the halfway line, but Boutabout's looping header failed to trouble Nicolas Douchez in goal.

Abdelnasser Ouadah was next to try his luck, dispossessing Fode Mansare 30 yards from goal but firing marginally over from long range.

Mansare produced the visitors' first real opportunity on the half-hour mark, laying on a superb ball for Johan Elmander to chase down the left channel, but advancing goalkeeper Stephane Trevisan timed his run perfectly and intercepted.

Trevisan was also called upon just before the break, but made a comfortable save from Achille Emana's speculative 25-yard effort.

The second period saw both sides mainly limited to long-range efforts but it was Toulouse who began to dictate the rhythm and direction of play.

Emana came close on the hour but his bobbling drive was gathered at the second attempt by Trevisan.

Gregory Pujol should have given the hosts the lead with 15 minutes to go, but he slammed his close-range volley into the ground allowing Douchez to save.

The miss proved costly as just three minutes later, Emana found Paolo Cesar about 20 yards from goal, and he expertly found room for a shot and lashed under Trevisan for the lead.

The victory was complete with five minutes remaining, when Ebondo went on a mazy run down the right before cutting inside, beating his defender in the area, and firing an unstoppable left-foot shot into the far side of the goal.
