Late scare for Portugal
ALMATY, Oct 17 (Reuters) - Portugal's Ariza Makukula and Cristiano Ronaldo gave them a 2-1 win over Kazakhstan in their Euro 2008 Group A qualifier on Wednesday.
Portugal, who move within a point of group leaders Poland,
went ahead in the 84th minute when substitute Makukula headed
home Ricardo Quaresma's right-wing cross.
Cristiano Ronaldo then powered in a second goal during added
time following a pass from Nani before Kazakhstan got a late
consolation with a Dmitry Byakov header.
The win leaves Portugal on 23 points, three clear of
third-placed Finland with two matches remaining. The top two
teams qualify for the finals in Austria and Switzerland.
