Latvia 0-1 Sweden: Nervy Swedes hang on
RIGA, Sept 2 (Reuters) - Sweden beat Latvia 1-0 in their opening Euro 2008 Group F qualifier on Saturday with Kim Kallstrom scoring the only goal of a tightly contested match.
Kallstrom was left unmarked and unchallenged on the edge of
the penalty area after 39 minutes to wrong-foot goalkeeper
Aleksandrs Kolinko to score what proved to be the winner.
Latvia chased the equaliser throughout the second half and
created a series of opportunities, but failed to capitalize on
any of them.
Swedish goalkeeper Rami Shaaban was forced to make several
spectacular saves for Sweden to notch up three points for the win
Iceland, Denmark, Spain, Liechtenstein and Luxemburg
complete the group.
