ROTTERDAM, April 8 (Eredivisie) - A masterful second-half performance from Sparta Rotterdam saw them crush rock-bottom RBC Roosendaal and give themselves a chance of survival in the Eredivisie.
Sparta remain in 16th and could still be involved in the end-of-season play-offs but three crucial points put them within just a point of 15th placed ADO Den Haag.
With RBC already relegated having collected a meagre nine points a win was both expected and needed for the Rotterdam-based outfit.
Just one goal separated the sides at half-time with Marvin Emnes slotting home from 18 yards after 33 minutes.
Yuri Rose and Jason Oost did well to create the chance and Emnes was clinical with the finish.
RBC were fighting hard and could have scored either side of the Emnes` strike with Tim Smolders and Henk Vos both spurning decent chances.
The tempo of the game changed after the interval and right from the restart Sparta showed that they would accept nothing short of victory.
Just a minute into the second period Ivan Cvetkov headed home from Jan Michels` cross to double the lead and herald the onslaught.
With 60 minutes on the clock Oost again did well to rob Melvin Fleur before taking the ball into the box and passing to Yuri Rose who converted from 14 yards.
RBC`s heads dropped and Sparta attacked with growing confidence in search of a big score.
They bagged a fourth after 68 minutes from the penalty spot when Jose Fortes Rodriguez brought down the energetic Oost in the area. Oost picked himself up to beat Mark Volders in the away goal.
They had another penalty four minutes later after a rash challenge by Volders felled Emnes. This time Anthony Obodai stepped up but Volders guessed correctly and pushed away the penalty and the subsequent follow-up.
Sparta were rampant and Oost grabbed a second six minutes from time to round off a good result for the hosts. Oost ran at the RBC defence, passing Bjorn Daelemans with ease before firing past Volders at the far post.
It was the 86th goal RBC have conceded this season - the next worst defence in the Eredivisie has yielded 60.
